GM did a fine job designing a reliable performance car that was affordable. If it ain't broke I ain't gonna fix it.

In my teens, I needed loud exhaust so everyone would see and hear me, after all I had a car! Thrush and cherry bombs rule

Back then we had to jack 'em up and put big tires on to burn up Now they gotta be lower so the sparks can fly. Gotta put the wrong size tires on so the speedometer reads wrong, that's cool!

Don't forget the need for stripes, Startsky and Hutch had them!

And those wheels, started with Baby Moon hub caps and graduated to chrome reverse, then slotted and finally the ultimate Crager SS. Made a great excuse to steal a car, especially when the wheel cost more than the ride plus it had that ethnic appeal! Don't forget the fender flares to cover the wrong tires and wheels

Add the new sound system. I had 8 track. The factory Bose system just doesn't cut it if you have the need to make music for your entire trailerhood

SO, lesson for the new C5 Owners - Buy a nice ride for $15k, add $10k in aftermarket bolt on crap and your car will be worth almost $10k when you are done Save the original parts in case the next owner is an adult Who needs reliability, just carry those tools with you and join AAA

Funny u mentioned cassette tapes ,my c5 came with a cassette tape player from ygr factory & a 12 disc CD player too ,who putt putts around in a corvett? Not me! the cars are made to go fast in & for some people the stock platform just isn't cutting it on a power level for them ,apparently gm thinks like I do, they added power to the newer c6s & c7s ,some people buy them to road race & some to drag race ,if u have ever been in an 800rwhp c5 that u can stomp the gas pedal @ 80 & spin tires then u will understand why we mod our cars ,

The lesson is Don't buy a c5 in stock trim ,if u wanna go fast, then buy one that's all ready been modded, & I know everyone has an opinion ,just like a holes ,everybody has one ,u may think a stock c5 is fast or a stock c6 /c7 ,for some people that suits their needs but for me personally i wanted my car to reassemble my style / that means I added my twist to the car ,u were saying or someone about the value of it when u went to resale it ,who said anything about selling their pride & joy? If u had to,pull the motor & the tranny & put the stock one back in it ,there's ur stock corvette ,there's such a huge demand for go fast parts in the corvette world ,I can flip any performance item I buy for my corvette ,guaranteed, I won't get full price as I paid for it but I had my ecs kit on my c5 since 06 & paid 6,500.00 for just the supercharged system ,I had to rebuild the blower 1 time & it was only a seal * bearing ,inexpensive part ,& I could put the kit on the market & get back 4,500 of it ,their great kits, they make lots of power & everybody wants them ,to each his own ,that's how we were made unique ,thank God ,it would be a boring world if we all looked & thought the same my 03 cents

Performace wise mine is basically stock as well. Headers, LS6 intake, CAI, Catbacks and a tune. Been very reliable so far. Appearance wise, ya, I've done some things but they can easily be reversed if needed. Don't ever plan on selling it but as they say, "Never say never."

Been some talk here about 8-tracks. I actually have a head unit in my closet. Has anyone ever put an 8-track in one of these cars? I know it's a stuid question with what is out there these days but maybe someone has wanted to relive thier youth....

I bought the Z16 because it has a chance of holding its value longer.
There a few items not worthy of leaving stock.
Like the seat bottoms, feels like I'm sitting on a cushy recliner.
Shades of the 4-track days...... bench seat, floor shift, GF in the middle.

All my past vehicles where customized and modified to an extent and on every single one of them I rarely got anything out of the mods when it came the price of the vehicle. I did however get alot of enjoyment, compliments and good times out of all of them. Now thats something money cant buy!

Mods are an extension of personality. You should NEVER throw mods on a car and expect an increase in selling price- that's not why you do it and its a tad bit daft for one to believe so. I'm a petrol head. Having the exact same car as the person living across the street who shows no interest in vehicles other than it looks nice is... unjust and a bit boring. Mine should be a little bit nicer, louder, and faster to show that turd who is boss.

I see many well-maintained, bone-stock C5 Corvettes in Florida and they are very nice to look at and appreciate based on the work involved and the owner's intent to keep the car in its original form.

As the original owner, I decided to molest mine after a few years of running her stock. "Molested" to some. "Personalized" to me.

Thanks Jedi Master!

Funny thing about the CCWs. I've "officially" entered 6 Corvette shows since owning my C5 as most of the time I participate in road trips, mixed car shows and help host our club show every year. I actually didn't like entering "Corvette only" shows because I felt most shows were a popularity contest based on how many guys with the same color club polo shirt showed up. I don't enter to win, but I don't necessarily like losing to a car with dirty floor mats only because the owner belonged to the right club.

What's funny is that I'm 3 for 3 in taking home trophies since I installed the CCW wheels. Even though I had the other mods done prior to installing the CCWs, it seems as though the wheels draw the people/judges in and then they see the Caravaggio spoiler, HID/LED lights, interior mods, etc.

CCWs = Judge magnets!

I do what I want.
The day I need to make money selling my car and the difference between life and death is it has the same stuff on it as 15 years ago then I have bigger problems.

Put a cat back exhaust on soon after buying. When I had the coolant system flushed I had all hoses replaced with red silicone hoses. Replaced console cover with a padded red and black one. The least favorite thing I did was the stainless screw kit. Washers are too small. Other than that the car is stock. I figure what I've done so far is considered very mild. We really love everything else about the car.
