I see many well-maintained, bone-stock C5 Corvettes in Florida and they are very nice to look at and appreciate based on the work involved and the owner's intent to keep the car in its original form.
As the original owner, I decided to molest mine after a few years of running her stock. "Molested" to some. "Personalized" to me.
I love interior mods. They're generally easier and less expensive (relatively speaking) and they really help the car feel more "me". I don't mind minor-to-moderate exterior mods either. I love having engine work one as well... just not by me! I leave that to the pros. I don't have the time nor the space to have the car in pieces.
Mine is stock. and I personaly like it that way. skip shift, and a high speed fan control, and painted calipers, are the only things that have been done to it.
What a great post. I have had Corvettes since 1966. I really prefer totally stock cars. I guess I am a purist at heart. I even order stock GM parts for radiator hoses and stuff. I respect cars that are heavily modified and love to look at them. It is what makes us all human. I just simply don't think there is anything cooler than a real nice 1965 Corvette with a 396 that some guy has had for 25 years and drives it that is all stock. My 2002 has Lloyd's mats and that is about it. That being said, there is nothing cooler than some wild Corvette with 800 horsepower knocking off some screwed up Mustang either....I guess I have double standards. Ken
Stock is the only way I will own any corvette. Its a testament to what the car was capable of during any given era! even the stereo head unit will stay. If ineed blue tooth etc, I take out my DD. When we are discussing great vettes of the past , we always reference their factory specs not what someone did to "improve" it. If your goal is to have 700 hp on a C5 , go for it> its your call. When I tire of this c5 I will upgrade to a newer stock C6 or C7 with more than enough factory get up and go. Im not sure most guys who have heavily modded their cars would actually by one unless it was heavily discounted.
As stated before, extensive engine mods are a pretty darn clear indication that the car has been run real hard. My bone stocker '99 with over 200K still runs smooth and quiet and is plenty quick enough for "normal" driving with an occasional burst when needed.
I like being a fly on the wall in this thread... Nice to hear everyone's opinions, makes me realize how much we really love our cars. At this point in my life, my black on black 99 FRC with the factory MN6 and Z06 TI mufflers will do it for me. Just a fun car that runs and drives.
I know "Mods" are the hot ticket for many. I actually prefer my car as factory built. A few accessories OK.. But I'm curious who else on the C5 forum prefers their car basically stock as designed and delivered.
I like mods, love to hear the big cams, exhaust, turbo sound, blowers. I enjoy seeing these type of cars but for mine, I like it stock - I did not buy it to be a show queen or to race so I will just poke along with my LS1 and hope for the best.
