I have a 03 c5z with 100k miles . When I bought it about 2 months ago the shifting was very notchy . Impossible to quick shift or power shift . I installed a mgw short throw and did the anti venom mod . It helped a lot especially with daily driving but when racing it's still super hard to get in gear especially 4th and won't let you power shift . It's a stage 2 clutch . I was told maybe I have air in the clutch line . Or maybe my clutch fluid was burnt up . Or maybe my trans is going. Any suggestions
You went from a notchy shifter to one that is a looot more notchy...short shifters even mgw are supposed to be notchy...where does the clutch catch when releasing the pedal? High or low?
You may want to experiment with different ATF's. I changed mine out because I was going to the track. First I used Amsoil and really didn't like it, made my notchiness worse. I switched again to Royal Purple max ATF and its much better. I find temp makes a lot of difference. When its a cold morning, notchiness is very bad. When its warmer, its much better. Once the ATF is up to temperature, it shifts very nicely
I don't mean to hi-jack your thread but what the heck is this anti-venom mod that everyone talks about? I did a search, and everyone just says "do the anti venom mod" without actually telling you what it is or what it does. I have an MGW shifter myself.
It's just a lil washer u put on a bolt on your trans . I installed mgw and did the anti venom the same day so I couldn't really tell u if it helps that much but it is a big defference from my stock shifter to now
Well I have the MGW with the lower box and I don't see any issues with it. What does the washer improve?
It backs off the bolt that acts as a detent, to keep your car in the chosen gear. The other end (inside) has a spring loaded ball, and putting a washer to space back that end makes the neutral detent less stiff. Didn't do anything noticeable for me.
