My 01 is about ready to turn the clock to 50K this week and due to the fact that when I hit a medium size pot hole or bump it is sometimes bone jarring. Is this telling me I need new shocks?
Fred
And/or bushings. If your bushings are shot then all the shocks in the world are not going to dampen uncontrolled suspension movement.
Which is not so say they are shot, but what I'm saying is that even with only 50k the car is old enough that the factory bushings should be inspected carefully.
Corvette suspension and ride will always feel "stiff" in part due to the design of the suspension and the enormous tires - - I suspect hitting a pothole of any size would be a jarring experience.
At 12 years old but only 50k miles, you may need shocks- but the only way to really tell is to get the car in the air and inspect the shocks for leaks of fluid, as well as examining all the under-car rubber bushings and suspension components.
If you can do it yourself- great. if not, see if you can get it into a shop that will do a good inspection of the under-car components - - then you can make the right decision.
Alot of guys go to the C6 and C6 Z06 shocks/sway bars or in my case, I went with Bilstein sport shocks at 70k miles.
Could be a variety of things. 50K seems early for shocks but I've seen crazier things happen. My advise would be to take it to a dealership, get an $80 diagnostic done to pinpoint exactly what needs to be replaced
Get rid of the runflats if thats what you're ridding on now. The wife's 99 A4 coupe was the same way till I put non runflats on the back. When the fronts are due they will be getting replaced with non runflats too. In fact, the ride is so much better she wants me to get rid of the fronts now.
