Default My 03' Mods Thread

When I bought the car in March, the previous owner had not done much to the car except Corsa exhaust and a Greenwood Race Wing. Like so many of us I decided that I wanted to make the car more mine. The first picture shows the wing installed. After talking with many folks around here and most importantly, my wife, we decided the wing had to go so that was the first mod (sounds funny calling a reversal back to original as a mod).

So off it went to the body shop for removal, fill and paint and I have to say, the body shop did an awesome job. I will post pics of the work later.

By now I had decided what things I wanted to do to the car The first thing would be to turn everything into LED technology. So the first LED mod was to install new Halo's in the tail, the third brake light pulser and a new Adjure backup light set with LED's.

As I researched the install of the Halo's I noticed some folks add drip seals around the lights. Well I had forgotten to buy some from Southern Car Parts and didn't remember until Sunday when I was doing the install. After thinking about it I decided to head off to HD and see what they had. What follows in my solution and it work very well.

This first picture shows the gap between the body and the fixture.

This is a profile of the silicone insulation I found. It is 1/2" wide and has double sided sticky tape already installed.

Here is the package from HD.

I cut the pieces into 24" length (you get 20' in the box) so you can do at least 8 lights. Start at the top of the light and keep the thin edge facing the rear of the red lens and adhere the insulation. When you get back to the top, just cut it off at the spot you started and you are done.

Finished light.

I put dielectric grease on all of my exposed electrical connections. But even after I do that, I still either electrical tape wrap or heat shrink tubing to further protect the connection.

Here is a picture of the light installed. Use a small amount of car soap on the silicone and it slides right in.

Left side finished.

More to come.....

Looks good and the seal cross section looks almost exactly like the Southern Car Parts version I have yet to install (and probably cheaper too). Hope it will stop a lot of the grime that accumulates around the lights.

That really looks good. Where'd you find the silicone insulation? Disregard -- I see your reference to HD. I'm headed there tomorrow.

Good call on removing that wing Please make sure to keep it out of circulation and take a sledgehammer to it!

I agree with the others. Good call on trashing the boy racer "look-at-me" ironing-board. I'm sure the 15yr old girls in your neighborhood are now sad.

The continuing saga of personalizing my car. I just finished installing a full engine dress kit from RPI Designs. The quality of these pieces is excellent and the fit is as close to OEM as it gets. Well done RPI!

I chose to mix the color of the pieces. Some cars look good with all the pieces the same color. My choice was to just have just "enough" yellow and mix it with some Carbon Fiber. I think it looks pretty nice.

I also just finished installing the DRL kit from RadioFlyer Innovations to turn the DRL/Signals into LED based lights. I bought the clear/black/amber lens, the Gen 4 switchback bulbs, the amber LED's for the side markers and I added the switchback LED accent strip. A most excellent mod I highly recommend!!

Next will be pics of my RadioFlyer Innovations Bi-Xenon ACA Projectors install and the HID Fog kit from JWMotoring! Then on to the interior!
