Default Steering column lock question

About a week ago, I had a deal in place to purchase the car of another forum member. He decided quite wisely that he wasn't ready to give it up, so the deal fell through. Meanwhile, I had ordered a column lock bypass mechanism as per recommendations found here. (The newer, less expensive device, the name of which escapes me. It cost me $40.)

Now, subject only to an inspection that occurs tomorrow, I am going to buy a C5 that has had the GM recall work done on it to fix the problem. Assuming that things go smoothly and I buy the car, what should I do:

1. Leave things as they are
2. Install the new device
3. If #2, do I have to somehow undo whatever it is that GM did?

Thanks in advance for any advice you may provide.

GM's recall didn't fix anything. If it's a pre 01 of any kind, or a post 01 6 speed, you still need a CLB or an LMC5 installed. Only the 01-04 automatics don't need it. Maybe 8vette7 will see this and help. If not, PM him and ask, you won't be sorry. Tell him the year and the transmission type, don't just say C5/

My car-to-be is a 2002 manual transmission. I ordered the LMC5 and it arrived today. From the sound of it, I should install it and sleep easy. I will PM 8vette7 once I know that the car is really mine. Inspection tomorrow . . . . fingers crossed.

Thanks for the guidance.

Really makes one wonder how many C5's are advertised with the 'recall done' and the seller truthfully think it's fixed!

Oh and the recall 'fix' doesn't work

Definitely install it! Follow the paper instructions to the T and it's actually relatively easy!

Good Luck!

LMC5 is the way to go. I even needed the one with the extra wire and Compliance Parts helped me step by step.

Thats got my vote.
