That time of year to avoid snow I would drop down south and take the 40 to the 44, It's a pretty easy drive. The 70 is hell in the winter through Denver and the 80 depending on weather is can be bad
take a southerly route rather than risking running into snow over the Rockies.
All I could do at the hotel was to park in the center of my stall and turn the mirrors in.
I did see a guy in a rental car try to hit my car with his door, but he missed.
If I can I get the far right stall and hug the curb it gives the guy on my left an extra couple inches to really swing his door open. It always amazes me how people can open their car doors into other cars without even a thought about it.
you can run regular gas with zero issues, just keep your foot out of throttle, but even if you get into it the computer pulls timing to ensure you don't hurt motor....been doing it for years in my z with zero problems.
Spare keys... doesn't everyone have a spare somewhere on every vehicle they own??
and one for home buried outside the house somewhere? and while I'm off on a tangent... ain't there a fully-charged fire extinguisher and a flash light next to every bed?

While going thru AZ I would recommend visiting Sedona & Grand Canyon. Then you can head up into Utah to Zion / Bryce Nat'l Parks then drive the Escalante Grand Stairway thru the canyons to Natural Arches & Canyonland Nat'l Parks. The Escalante is an incredible drive - lots of great vistas, twisty switchback turns and you will love it in your Vette !! I drove this route when i brought my 04 back to NH from Los Angeles .
When on the road I always ask the hotel desk manager where i can park my car so it will be in their sight during the nite - they are usually very accomodating. I always get off the hiway at dusk due to the deer !
Good advice on here. Mine is the pretty much the same but here is what I do for long trips:
1) I have a AAA Premier membership... gives me 1 free 200 mile tow a year... haven't used it yet.
2) Cell phone and all chargers
3) Hand sanitizer... get the small plastic bottle that fits in your pocket. You'd be amazed how hand this will be for... touching the gas pumps and public rest rooms that don't have soap
4) Small but powerful LED flashlight in the car
5) A portable Jumpstarter: If for some reason you need a jump, you can do it and do it safely all by yourself. Here is an example,
6) I have made my own flat tire kit. This is for the times that AAA is out of reach because cell phone has no coverage or AAA can't get there fast enough:
- Hotrod jack - gets the vette lifted enough so that you can put a real jack under it. My vette is only 3.5 inches off the ground so I need this.
- Standard jack
- Dyna plug tire repair kit - I am a big fan of this because there is no sealant spray which will gum up the tire sensors.
- Tools needed to install the dyna plug: pliers, screw drivers
- a 12 V impact wrench to take the lug nuts off
- small air compressor (although most portable jump starts have them built in)
7) If you have a bad back like me, I keep a grabber in the car in case
The nice thing is that in the C5, even with all this "junk", I still have plenty of room... gotta love the C5 cargo capacity
Can you really take off the lug nuts off with just a 12 V impact wrench? Thought you needed more power such as with an air compressor.

My wife keeps our spare set of car keys in her purse. We have a key for the house hidden outside, can't tell you where. I do have a flashlight and 12 gauge next to the bed, but no fire extinguisher.
I bring a breaker bar and socket. Doesn't take up hardly any space and speed is not a priority.
Instead of a breaker bar, I have the $10 Harbor Freight torque wrench. About the same price as a breaker bar, but serves as a ratchet and can torque the lugs too.

Good idea. I have one of those. Thought about putting it in the trunk but I had an extra breaker bar so I carry that.
Hopefully I never have to use any of my emergency stash.
I may be able to move my trip from CA to MO up to the last week in August through the first 2 weeks in September. I'm thinking that this time of year I should be able to take the Northern route (I 80) without having to worry about snow. If I do this, I'll be driving to MO via I 80 the last week of August. I'd be returning to CA via I 40 during the second week of September. This way I'd be able to see a lot more of the country during my Corvette adventure. Any thoughts on my new plan? Suggestions for places to see or stay along I 80 will be appreciated.
Just going to take my time and see some stuff along the way. It may not take a week to get to MO or a week to get back to CA. but the trip will be a big part of my adventure. I travelled the country on a band bus in the 1970s. I met a lot of interesting people and saw a lot of stuff. I'm looking forward to doing it again on my own terms, and in my own time. Six hours of driving and I'm done. I'm hoping for 5 hour driving days for this trip.

It will let you plan a trip and will show cool locations to visit along the way.
I wouldn't worry too much about snow. This up and coming winter should be a mild one and those areas don't usually start getting snow until november/december.
