I wouldn't worry too much about snow. This up and coming winter should be a mild one and those areas don't usually start getting snow until november/december.
Thanks for the roadtrippers recommendation, Doug. I registered with them and am looking at motels/campgrounds and scenic attractions along the way. Not a whole lot of scenic attractions in Southern Wyoming though. Might just have to do a drive through in that state.
Yea, I was considering I 70 as an alternate to I 80. Might be more to see, but the Hwy seems a bit dicey what with really long stretches with no services and the 2 mile long Eisenhower (sp?) Tunnel at over 11,000 ft. Anyone done a trip like mine on I 70?
If you want to see the mountains this is the way I would go.
I do want to see the mountains, so I 70 is definitely in the running. I 80 doesn't seem to have a lot going for it scenery wise. I'll be coming back on I 40 so will have plenty of flat terrain to enjoy. Thanks for the input.
The tunnel is no big deal, in the old days we would have to take switch backs over the pass.
It's been awhile but as I recall it's lit up like daylight the entire span...unless you're really claustrophobic, I wouldn't worry.
But the old route was a lot of fun, even in the grossly underpowered cars I owned back then.

A quick suggestion - Rt 70 into Colorado - at Glenwwod Springs get off Rt 70 go thru Aspen and you can drive Independence Pass ( an awesome drive ) follow Rt82 East and you can pick up Rt 24 that will take you into Colorado Springs. A beautiful drive I have done a couple times. In Colorado Springs you can see the Garden of the Gods and the Air Force Academy ( the Chapel is beautifully lit at nite ) From here you can start heading East to Missouri

Plan on an extra day if you do this. Think about it: you're in Colorado Springs in a Corvette...how can you not drive up Pikes Peak?!?

Oh man I am jealous.
Did 2 CC trips in my 03 and would do it again in a heartbeat.
Nothng special before I left. Oil changed, tires good. engine and belts and all fluids checked. Turn the key and enjoy.
And also I took a month off each time, and the most enjoyable part about it was not having set plans for stays.
I knew the places I wanted to see but let them decide how mch time I stood there. (within reason).
Serious, relax and enjoy.

Thanks Bob. I'll look into this as well as the other routes you folks have suggested. This is exactly the kind of info I'm looking for. I guess there is no reason to be locked into one interstate or the other.
