Default Broken down c5 please help. Electrical

So I'm driving down the road headed back to my house and I notice my radio speakers go out? So I'm thinking that's weird must be a ground or something.
So I keep driving and my speedo, gas gauge, battery gauges start going ape sh*t. They stopped working completely then would bounce to 200mph (and all other max) then stop. Nothing was working electrical at all and then was nowhere to stop so I kept going. Finally found a store (as soon as my engine cut off) and was able to coast in to a spot where I'm at right now. And now when I try to start car I get the clicking dead battery sound.
Wtf.
Sounds like alternator to me..?
My friend is on the way with a voltage meter to see what's up.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

-also I did get a low voltage message earlier today on my car. I didn't crank it last 2 days so I thought that's what it was.

Thought the battery was only used primarily to start the car?
Once started everything runs mostly off alternator?

Not really, the battery helps to even things out at low rpm's and acts as a load to the alternator. A bad battery can kill an alternator and vice versa.

Take it out. Check to see if you have any leaks underneath. If you do, than you may have a bigger problem. I would not worry though, these cars seem to have a lot of parasitic draw on the battery. Lot's of folks use a trickle charger to keep the battery charged and counteract the draw. You can get one at Walmart for 20 bucks and they are a great investment.

Volt reader said battery was at 8.5 volts. After jumped off went back up to 13.
Battery is the issue.
On the way to buy a new one now.
Noticed there was one bolt at the very bottom to remove the battery. Should be pretty simple although it is a corvette

Check for an acid leak.
And look down there under the tray for acid damage...
When you get a chance..

Ok I got the battery removed... If I give it to advance I save 18.00 core charge. Gonna end up costing about 68$ for new battery. If I get the 109$ one. Not sure but prolly going with the 116.99 one.
Below is a pic of under battery tray. Doesn't look bad
