Default Climate control gauge.

I recently got my C5, so I am still in the exploration stage with some things.
I notice that the gauge that displays the readings for climate control is extremely dim.
All the other instrument gauges are nice and bright.
I thought maybe there is some sort of clear film placed over the outside to protect it from scratches, and in all the years the previous owner never bothered to remove it.
Close inspection and I don't think there is a film over it.
Why would this be so dim ?
Hardly able to read it unless I lean over and put my face about five inches away from the gauge.
Any suggestions?
Bob.

This is an easy fix if you can work a soldering iron. Took me about an hour and $20 in parts from radio shack along with following the info in this link: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...splay-fix.html

Good luck!

You can also get a used part for $200 and replace the whole thing from Corvette Recyclers. I did that, but I should have read the forum in more detail and done the solder routine first.

Correctly soldering the 8 resistors shown in the link provided will fix your display for zero dollars if you can take out the HVAC head unit and solder. I did mine last week, it took about 40 minutes to take out, solder and put back. It could be done quicker, but I wasn't in a rush.

with the above - not a hard fix if you have some soldering skills.

Thanks for all the replies.
Guess I better get to Radio Shack and pick up an iron and solder.

Good luck!
Mine took a couple of hours because I replaced all the bulbs while I had it out. If I just did the soldering, I could have done it in 20 minutes.

A quick search on the forum finds an easy fix that I just did today, very good instructions and no more guessing what your temp is. I was a first time with soldering and it only took about 30 mins. Had the dash apart for a new shifter. Totally worth it and satisfying to just complete diy. Mood luck
