Default Big Cam idle

Hey guy's, I was wondering what most of you run your idle at that have big cams in your car. I'm running a 235x248 LSA 113+4 degree. My idle is at 7.5 but when I come up to a stop light the car will die. Wondering if this could be because my idle is to low. At times the idle will drop to 4 to 5 hundred then come back up to 7.5 or die out. I've done the idle relearn and that didn't help. I'm think my air fuel could be off a little as well.

Another question I was wanting to know is does the air hose that goes to the air filter needed and if so does that hose come from the air pump. I had a blower on my car and changed and went with a heads and cam setup. Never had this problem with the idle with the blower.
Thanks for any info you may have.

I had my G5X3 cam installed and tuned by LG Motorsports and they told me when I picked it up that it may do some weird things and not to worry about it. Mine will drop to ~500 RPMs while idling quite often, seemingly more so when the AC is on. It will usually pick back up to 900 RPMs or so pretty quickly though. It will also sometimes start slowly revving by itself when in idle. The RPMs will slowly increase to 1.5-2K then it'll stop and go back to normal. It's pretty funky, but I've always just assumed it had something to do with the cam and tune. The car has only died a single time since I've had the cam and I think that was just a bad set of circumstances.

+2 on the C5 FRC I had with a G5X3.

What I did was have my RPMs adjusted upward of 900-1000. Yeah, a waste of gas while idling but helps prevent those red light woes.

Another issue.....Do you have a VaraRam? I did and the guy at VaraRam stated that with big cams and high HP N/A engines, he highly recommended the VaraRam AirBridge to relocate the MAF closest to the Throttle Body. Something to consider, and may be an idea to test out with or without the VaraRam Air Intake System.

You can always downshift as you slow down keeping the RPMs where you want them until fully stopped, or, use your left foot to brake and you right foot to feather the gas pedal to keep the RPMs up as needed.

Thanks guy's for your replies. Guess I will have my tuner to set the idle higher and see how that works out. If your running your idle at 900 to 1000 then this may help with my problem. 750 may be just to low for the size of cam I'm running. Thanks again. Gary.

Now is this depending on the year? I have an LS3 set up i my 97 C5 with a VRB2 with power duct and the shop put the MAF up front by the filter box. They tried to get it to work close to TB and I had all kinds of idle issues.

I have the Halltech on my car right now but plan on changing it. I was also wondering if you need the air hose hooked up to the filter because mine isn't so would that throw off your air fuel mixture. I couldn't remember if the air hose came off the air pump or not. Having a blower for so long and now going this way with the heads and cam not sure about that air hose.

Thanks for any info you may have.
You can either attach your own, small, filter on the end of the A.I.R. hose, or re-hook it back up the air filter housing.

If your A.I.R. system is still intact and operating, that hose supplies filtered air to the pump so it's not sucking in dirt, etc when it runs.

We have a very similar application, except mine is a 427. My car does have the connection but not at the box, my air hose is running from the power duct to the passenger side valve cover. You can kind of see it here on the power duct.
