Default engine bolt ons question

So I have a 2004 CE vert and am thinking about modding it. My last vette (98) had heads, cam, LTs, intake, pretty much every bolt on you can do.

My question is, if I did all those bolt ons, but used the factory cam, or maybe an LS6 cam, because I want this car to idle like a completely stock car.....how would those other bolt ons respond?

I really like the idea of the car sounding almost stock.....so I would leave the factory mufflers on.

I would imagine the heads and headers along with an LS6 intake would still really wake the car up......but leaving a stock cam and mufflers on it would make it sound really close to factory?

thoughts??

The heads, headers will help. You already have a Z06 intake (2001+) so you will definitely wake the car up.
Cams are a popular mod because most LIKE the sound, and you can pick up some really serious hp.
I don't think I would bother with a Z06 cam unless you are SURE you will never go bigger. Its a lot of work to do for such a small increase (IMO)

Also, you can get SIGNIFICANT gains without losing the OEM nature of the sound if you install a well-specified, lower-duration cam. I believe PRE-Z06 and a couple others have had great luck with big gains and serious power under the curve from smaller cams.

Check out Texas speed's sleeper cam
https://www.texas-speed.com/p-1145-t...-camshaft.aspx

If you want the car to sound nearly bone stock you could try a sleeper cam like that, some mildly ported 243 heads, headers,X pipe , high flow cats and throw in some Z06 mufflers

Agree. You can get a good performance cam that will idle well if you get the right tune with it. It is all about modding correctly (matching components), not just sticking mods on it.

If you do not know the best mods, reach out to well known Vette performance shops and get their opinions and advise. They do this for a living and know more than us tinkerers.

well my last cam was a 224/224 600/600 on a 115 and I thought it would idle really well.....and it didnt. I dont know what lobe profile that cam was and Im sure the tune sucked......but with this new car im just really hesitant to put a cam in it.

I want a smooth idle with absolutely NO surging issues at all.

I will do the work myself, but the closest place I know of to get the tune done would be Vengeance in GA. Theres not a tuner in Memphis that I would trust.

I was more asking for the purpose of you getting with one of the guys on here with a little cam that puts out and idles nice

That'd be the way I'd go
