Default Driver's Door Controls Switches - Interchangeable?

I have a semi-urgest question that I need a definitive answer for.

Are the two different versions of the driver's door switch, one with memory control buttons and one without, interchangeable with each other?

My car does not have memory seats so it just has the basic functions switch. I need a replacement, but the only replacement available is out of a car with the memory seats. Will this still work in my car to operate the windows/locks/mirrors normally?

Is that a guess, or is it definitive?

Sorry I can't give you a definite yes or no, but I can tell you that according to a parts magazine I have the price for the drivers side with memory is $65......the same one without memory is $430. I could use one myself (for cosmetic reasons at this point) but the price made me decide to wait until it stops working. I was under the impression they would not interchange so I would be curious also to know for sure if your memory capable one interchanges with the non-memory one.

Yes, they are interchangeable. And, if your Driver seat is electric, you will gain the memory functions for it and your outside mirrors.

I posted a response several days ago but I don't know why it did not show up.

I answered this question last year for two others.

Yes, you can use a Memory Switch in place of one that is not. I determined that by verifying the connector pin outs and the circuits. They both responded it worked with no problems.

I cannot confirm the Memory function comment made by C5vetteguy. Would need to know if your seats have the seat control module. The LDCM should already have the ability to support mirror memory. Also I seem to remember the BCM has to be programmed for Memory with regard to the seats. Let us know what happens in regard to this. Would need to review the FSM on this again to comment further.

Thanks for the question and the answers........I will now contemplate replacing mine with the cheaper of the 2 options.

Cost was the reason the 2 other guys I helped wanted to use a Memory switch.

I would think there would be a lot more to that than just plugging in the new control switch. Isn't there a control module of some sort required for this?

Nope! My C5 came with manual seats. I bought a pair of electric ones and dropped them in. I then bought the memory door panel switch, plugged it in and presto change-o, the driver seat and mirrors had full 3-position memory capabilities. The only thing that doesn't work is the telescopic steering column, which wasn't powered to begin with.

Well then, here's to hoping mine do the same as I already have power seats.

TRUE Memory involves the LDCM, SCM, and the BCM. These are the modules while many other components are affected. Just put in the switch and let us know if you get any Memory functions at all. I would like to know what happens. I never got any such feedback for the other guys I helped but not sure if they even tried or if the they had manual seats.

PS: I can tell you will NOT get mirror memory unless the motor has the position sensors. There are 2 types of mirror assemblies, manual and Memory.

I'm not going to hold my breath as far as gaining the benefits of any hidden talents my car might have, but it sure would be nice to have, even if it's just the seat memory function. I guess we'll find out Wednesday when the new switch shows up.

what exactly is the difference in the memory/non-memory replacemnt part that makes the price differential so much?

Availability is what drives prices. Pure and simple. Just in this case the one that cost more to make originally now sells for less.

Rarity. The memory seat was more common, as a result its easy to find parts.

Just like coins. The hard to find ones are worth the most, the common ones are worth less
