Couldn't find the direct answer I was looking for in the search. Looking to ditch the 2.73's in my 04 and go with 3.42's at least, but my question is concerning the diff itself, should I buy a whole new diff unit or is there a ring and pinon set that will fit in the 2.73 case? I know it's been brought up before but I couldn't seem to find it.. car isn't daily driven and sees occasionally track visits, and won't be too modded until later, as of right now it's just a basic bolt on car with a stock TC, and the fall on it's face 2.73s out back
Finding a used low mile 3.42 diff out of a manual is your best bet
These sell for cheap too because they're stock gears.
If you plan on racing or anything like that you might want to think about finding a complete used Z06 differential case and gears. The Z06 casing is a three-rip case that is stronger than that used in the coupe and the convertible.
Get the complete diff. The Z06 differential will also be identified as 3:42sp which means the gears have been shot peened. I would go with a stall converter while you have it apart. 2800 to 3200 stall is great with this set up. You'll need to get the shift points reset though.
