Anyone ever buy one of those raffle tickets? Furthermore, has any Corvette Forum member ever won one?

I have bought a few in the past and no I've never won one.

 

I've bought several over the years but never have won a car. Would be nice, but some of the tickets cost more than I am willing to part with on a slim chance of winning.

 

I will usually play along when they do a $10/ticket raffle. The bad part is that there are unlimited entries, so your chances are far worse. But...I can part with $20 once in awhile and dream big...

BTW - there is one lucky soul who won TWO vettes 9 months apart.

Meantime, I get my DD crushed by falling concrete...

 

I'd much rather put down $200 on a 1 in 1000 chance at a silver C7 vert than $2 a week for a year on a 1 in 35 Million state lottery. The proceeds are going where they belong instead of some state run scam.
I've never won any more than a couple bucks at lotteries, I once won an autographed Pacific Coast League Portland Beavers baseball in about '64. Didn't think much of it at the time, Lou Piniella was just starting out in the minors (It's worth $50 or so now )

 

A member of our local club won a C-6 a couple of years ago.
the $10 tickets e a lousy gamble (odds wise) the 1 in a 1000 chance is not bad odds.

 

I am not a betting man, but will buy a couple of tickets to support whatever event I happen to attend, if the cause is just.

Never won a car. I did get a free bike back when GM was giving them away in support of the Saturn bicycle race team. Just signed up while everyone else was struggling to get a parking lot test drive in a vette. I talked to the Saturn rep in the booth, he said I was one of three tickets deposited that day. The bike is nice rebadged Mid line Trek bike, I use it for daily needs instead of the vette. I now have legs of steel. Once your legs are good, that's half of your fitness needs.

I wonder about control in smaller charities, because of my uncle. He won a brand new loaded Buick electra in the yearly Elks club raffle, and then won another one again the next year, after which he was disqualified for life in any Elks club raffles. I was a kid when he showed me the 1962 car he won , white with metalic blue interior and that cool tint GM used on the glass. One of the first cars to have wells for your feet, instead of the more common at the time flat floor with a trans tunnel. He later got drunk, left the car on top of a snapped off fire hydrant , and then hurried home and dried off to report his stolen car.
That's why I wonder. Guys like him.

 

Yes, there was an individual in C7 general who won the NCM raffle earlier this year. He was one happy fellow. I believe if you do a search on "won NCM raffle Corvette" the thread will show up.

 

I have a ticket for this Thursday's drawing, July 31. I support the NCM as often as I can. A 1 in 1,000 chance is way better than spending money on scratch tickets.

 

That's a great story. We picked up Lou Piniella in a trade from the Seattle Pilots for Steve Whiticker (sp?) during spring training of 1969. Rookie Of The Year in the A.L. that year. Don't know what happened to Steve Whiticker (sp?) and of course the Pilots became the Milwaukee Brewers the next year. Just a little useless trivia.

 

That person is a close friend of mine. I called him up one day and he sounded kind of funny on the phone. I asked what's going on and he said he wanted to tell me something but he wasn't sure how to bring it up. He then proceeds to tell me how the NCM was trying to get in touch with him and he had no idea why. He calls them and they were kind of evasive until they connected him to the right person, who then proceeds to tell him he just won a C7. Not only does he win a car but he wins a build to order car. They gave him a choice of either taking x amount of cash or he can take a certain dollar amount limit and build a car anyway he wants up to that amount. It was a very generous amount because he got every option he wanted and built the car exactly to his specifications, and didn't come up to the dollar limit they gave him. I personally haven't even thought of getting a C7 any time soon, but I think I'd be happy getting one that way. The only bad thing was that he had a pristine '04 C5 Z06 with low miles that he sold to pay the taxes. After winning the car one of the first congratulatory phone calls he got was from the IRS, asking how he intended to pay the income tax on his prize.

 

Last year I bought quite a few tickets. Of course the unlimited raffle tickets are cheaper but your chances suck since they often sell 20-30k on those raffles.

I haven't bought one for a while though ... I never have really won anything in any type of contest or lottery.

 

I bought a ticket a few years ago and was 5 numbers from the winning ticket...not that that counts for anything lol

 

A friend of mine won a Grand Sport last year, I think chances are good, better than the lottery.
You can't win if you don't play.............
