hey guys I'm looking to do a run at the dragstrip and was looking for advice , traction control on/off ? start off in 3rd and bump it up to drive ? not sure of best way, she's a 2003 automatic, supercharged ,605hp, 515 rwhp, stock wheels, i might only get one run so i wanna make the best run i can , just dying to see what she will do in the .25, thx
If you're running a stock street tire, you're not going to hook it. Best chance, don't do a burn out, try to drive around the water box. Some tracks you won't be able to. Just spin the tires enough to clean them only, pull to the tree, leave from an idle on the last yellow. If you have a higher stall converter you will probably go up in smoke when it locks up. Best try to borrow some drag radials for your track day. If not lower your tire pressure a little bit not too much or they will cup in the center, maybe 26 lbs or so. Just leave it in D and let it shift itself. Good luck!!
Speaking from experience, you will need traction control on to have any hope for a good run on street tires. I raced on them for awhile before going to bias ply drag slicks. That's when you turn tc off. On street tires, you will just shred your tires half way down the strip.
I have a similar setup to yours. 500RWhp with a A&A S/C, auto. First trip to the drags in June on a 110 degree day, so no expert here. Track was very sticky. Street tires but they are 305's on the rear. Take it you are running a centrifugal blower and not a roots. Blower doesnt kick in until you are launched and at 3000 rpm. Cautious launch and let them run. Tires will bark from first to second and maybe 2-3rd. No place to practice launch to get a feel? I made seven runs all within .06 of each other. Still smiling from the experience. Good Luck!
