you cant even argue that the Z16 isnt the best. It just is!!! CF hood, best shocks for performance, a few other small things, and best look IMO. Now for price reasons I went with an 02Z Much more affordable for me.
I like the Z16 but I think I would have liked it more if it were Electron Blue with mod red interior

When I went shopping for a C5 I had to have a Z06. Hands down it's just a better car all around IMO. Those looking at C5's will rule out the Z since the top won't come off, but my 03 has been fantastic. The yellow sitting on CCW's with mod red interior made me feel like a kid again.
I would spend more effort looking for the best C5 you can find, regardless of year. I'm much more concerned with how the car was cared for over what could be as many as 16 years then what year small changes were made by GM or what is/is not available for parts.

Truth here, I opted for the coupe because I love driving with the top down.
To answer the OP, the 2002 Millenium Yellow Coupe, 6-spd, is absolutely the best one you can by. It's a fact.
I placed more importance on the care that the owner took in looking after it than the year. They are all such magnificent cars, really. I pinch myself when I get into mine.
I have a C5,6 and 7 and love them all, but before you judge the C7, you need to drive one. The handling, refinement and performance between them is day & night. When I drive the C5 I have to remember to tone things down a bit.
My brother bought a new 99 Vette back in those days and I just couldn't imagine a better car after I drove it for a while...........Maybe U could find a Z06. Good luck

had 2 99 FRc's and an 03 coupe.
Loved the sport seats in the 03.
1st 99 had HUD which I love and seemed quicker than the Nb 99 now. (less miles/ possible tune?)
The one I have now has everything I need as far as power, and I'm still working on the rest. gets tinted later today.
I am looking to buy another c-5 as I really miss my "99". I just don't like the looks of the c-7 which I thought about buying now that I can afford one. My local Chevy dealer called me last week to come down and look at 3 new Corvettes that came in. No way I'm going to spend $60,000 on a car that I don't like the looks of. I've owned 3 c-5's in the past [2 97's and 1 "99"]. All great cars but the danger of the ebcm going bad always worried me as they are not repairable and hard to find used. My question is which year c-5 is the most reliable and trouble free as far as the common ailments that these cars have?

buy another low mileage '99 I own 2, they are bullet proof ! and have the best ABS and traction control, 2001+ traction control is too controling and abs brakes go into ice mode too easy. 2000 is damn good year too. if you want a Z '02 and '03 are best years
Who repairs 97 -99 E.B.C.M.'s? The only reason I want a 02-04 is because their [ebcm's] can be repaired.
P.S. I've owned 3 c-5's and 14 other Corvettes over the last 51 years of driving. I wish I still had my old "57" fueler!

My preference as well.
txshaggy owns a MY/mod too. An 04 though. Was ready to buy but he decide to wait on C7 a while longer.

It's 97-00 with EXPENSIVE ebcm used replacement $1000??
and 01-04 with INEXPENSIVE $150 fix
I think the A to the Q is the one you own/owned with the least issues you yourself experienced. Even 04 & late 03 are not exempt from possible unique issues; to wit: bad connectors (bungs) to fuel tank in the crossover. I think the 10-year limitation for a free fix is up.
If you're new to C5 or shopping for one you might scan the Sticky at top of C5 TECH titled "Best thread ever......."

^^^^^That
I also have an '03 and have had no issues to date.
