I had my dealer paint and install the spoiler on my 2002 Speedway white coupe and the paint looks fine but the tape doesnt seem thick enough to come in contact with the top of the bumper. About 3/4 of the length on the top of it is not sticking at all. Really bummed out about this. Anyone with any suggestions on what to do? Should I remove it entirely before it really sets up on the rest of it and add some more tape or what are my options. Thanks.
Try pressing it down firmly first. If that doesn't work, get some double sided tape and tweezers. Lift up the part of the spoiler that needs tape and apply it to the car, under the spoiler, then pull off the top protective layer of the tape and press down firmly. I wouldn't ask them to fix it because the spoiler is pretty delicate and I could see it getting cracked or damaged.
I would but they were fair in the price to sand/paint/install the spoiler and i wold really like to finish this myself(they apparently are not very adapt at this kind of install plus I think the design has a flaw that the tape is not thick enough to make contact before the lip).
By the way, didn't you use clear silicone to install yours and did it come off pretty easy when you changed it out?

This is possible but there is very little room to lift the edge due to about 1/4 of it being already adhered. I was thinking about taping some painters tape along the edge and using clear silicone to stick it then taping it down for a day but I'm concerned about what this might do to the paint should I ever decide to remove it.
Have installed two with no problems. Are you sure it's not defective? One has been on five plus years and I still feel looks like it came with the car.

I'm not sure how it could be defective because it conforms to the bumper pretty well--the tape is at the edge as the directions show but it's just not thick enough to come in contact with the paint. I might add that this is the second one that I ordered due to the first one having a paint issue and had to be returned for this unpainted one, so I really don't want to go thru any returns again.
Take it back, I had a body shop install mine after I failed trying it, I think they charged me 50 bucks and it had been on for years.
This was a professional shop(one of the largest GM dealer shops in town) and they were courteous( kept her inside a bay the entire time) and only charged me a little more that 100.00 to paint & install the part. I don't know if they would do more harm at this point although the guy I was working with( super nice fellow ) said if it doesn't adhere after leaving it in the sun for awhile to return it & they would figure something out. Might be my only recourse. Thanks for the input.

There you go, Take it back. Did they use a good adhesion promoter on it? That is a must.

They said that they followed the instructions that came with the spoiler--the tape/promoter were included so one would assume that it was used properly. The tape just isn't thick enough to contact the surface before he spoiler touches so I can't really fault them for the problem. I'm kinda wishing I had left her alone. Damn the "mod" bug!

When I had mine installed I remember the body guy telling me he would use this 3M tape which I believe was thicker. When I tried to install mine with the supplied tape I couldn't get it to hold down correctly.

Yes, I did use clear silicone when installing mine. It worked just fine. When I removed it the silicone came off fairly easily. The reason yours isn't sticking completely is because there's little surface area (on the spoiler) that the tape can stick to. And where it does, it's not the same depth as the rest, requiring thicker tape in some areas. This is why I used silicone.
I did mine today took my time used promoter
.perfect 70 degree day no humidity..
fit perfect stuck on amazing everywere but top right side maybe 12" from center to edge..so my gf held it up w her nails slid another piece of tape in and now its good..i misted the tape so it slid under w foam glass cleaner..
now its tight as hell and doesnt sqeak either on that side when u pressed down on it
i will test it sunday at nearly 200mph on pocono raceway
if the tape has not got wet I'd try to heat up the spoiler in the area its not sticking then put something heavy enough to hold in it place for an hour or so

----- Same problem, but without the successful conclusion. Wish I had found this thread before I bought/attempted to install my SLP spoiler yesterday. I wasn't able to get the same section to adhere properly & couldn't get additional tape under the edge without leaving noticeable gaps. I ended up removing the spoiler. I ordered another install kit direct from SLP, but now I'm thinking I wasted another $20. Next week I'll try to find thicker double-sided tape for the spoiler's leading edge -- maybe that'll help.
I bought mine factory painted and waited patiently for a warm day. When it came I left car and spoiler in the warmth for a couple of hours. I then followed the instructions to the letter, had a friend guide me, and it went on perfectly. It has been on for 2 or 3 months, been in a touchless car wash and is still perfect. I am very happy with it!
Had a similar problem when mine was installed by my Body Shop. Reinstall used a better adhesive tape (3M VHB 5952) plus Silicone. Body Shop applied alternating pattern of Tape, Silicone Adhesive Sealant, Tape across width of spoiler with Adhesion Promotor used underneath the VHB tape areas. Worked great. Not so much of a hint of looseness or coming off. Note: the VHB 5952 tape is pretty expensive, but I was able to find someone on fleabay that sold it by a 15' X 1/2" roll at a good price.
My Body Shop thought the supplied tape was maybe not so good, but I asked them to use what came with the Spoiler initially. Well I found out. Good luck.

I think this is the trick to getting this installed without any issues. The bodyshop that painted and installed mine left it in the sun as well and had no problems. Been on for a couple years now.
