Well, I have been transferred to Houston Texas, from the Midwest, Kansas City to be exact.
Now that snow and ice are not really a great concern to me, I've been kicking around the idea of selling my '96 LT4 (163K miles and needing some work) and trading my '06 Caddy STS (still owe money on it) for a C5 coupe or maybe even a Z06, as a daily driver. An early C6 is an option as well. But I have to admit, there's something about the C5 Z06 that really intrigues me. What do you folks think?
An 08+ C6 coupe is a better daily driver than a C5Z IMO. Smoother ride, smoother shifter, better seats, better trunk access, able to take roof off, more torque at low rpm, better mpg, and new tires actually exist in stock sizes.
That being said, the C5Z is more fun to drive so I bought one.

True about the C6, however, keep in mind that I'd be coming from a hotcammed C4 with Z51 shocks. I'd bet even the C5Z rides like my Caddy in comparison, lol.
It does get a little warm and humid down here, doesn't it? My experience has been that if there is anything the General has done consistantly well, it's climate control.
But I'm just wondering if a C5Z makes a solid daily. If I get one, it will be factory stock, and stay that way. But a coupe will work just as well.

I drive my 04 CE ZO6 daily - no problems (and I live in STL). Used to be a garage queen when I bought it (had 2800 original miles). Now has 17,XXX miles. Of course, I don't drive in any kind of snow, however.

My LT4 had 24K on it when I got it in '06, it now has 163K. Actually wasn't that bad in the KC winter. It was my only car for four years, however, I wouldn't want to do that again.
I semi daily drive my corvette, it isnt my daily but sometimes I like to drive it often when it is nice. Works good for me but I dont have to sit in rush hour though.
I have had a bunch of C4's and used some as daily drivers. I now have a C5 6M as my daily driver.
Both of them are good daily drivers, but the C5 is a little better. It is smoother and better gas mileage. The C5's are generally faster too, although I don't know how it compares to your modified LT4, it might be pretty close. The C5 has much better trunk/hatch space. It holds more and is easier to use than the C4.
The best bet is to get the C5 and keep the C4. I still have a '95 6M and a mildly modified '99 6M. It is fun changing back and forth. The feel is quite different.
Good luck with your choices, but you can't really go wrong with a C5, C5Z or C6. They are all great cars.
I daily drive the living **** out of mine. I come in early and try to leave before rush hour. If it's late and cars are stacking up on the freeway, I take Skyline and blow off steam.
There is a part of me that feels bad putting so many miles on my car, but I just love driving the damn thing.
If I lived in Texas I would dd, minimally, a ls3 c6, without any doubt. Maybe have to look into c7 pricing and if i could swing it.
Not that my c5z isn't dd'able. Even with a 1000 ftlb clutch and tick master its still no big deal to drive in traffic, the ride quality is quite good imo as well. I drive it any time its not raining from april to december. But if you are buying a dd having a loan on it isn't a big deal, if you have the equity in your trades c7 is the best.
Whatever you get i wouldn't buy one with super low miles as you will be putting a fair amount of miles on it of course. so save the 5k and buy a 40-60k mile one vs a 5-20k mile one.

I went from looking at a C5Z with 13k @ $25k to getting my coupe with 70k for nearly half that price. Just turned 100k and rolling.

Oh I agree. Not only for the price point, but I have found that under driven cars can have just as many issues as over driven cars, a different type of issue but not necessarily cheaper type.
