I just hate to bring up a topic that I know has been covered many dozens of times, but I have used the search function tell I am blue in the face with no luck --AT ALL.
I also know there are photos of C 5's in the process of being raised up ( jacked up) and the home made stuff in many cases being used to do that Ramps and such. I just can not find them.
I am trying to get my car high enough to get my lift arms under it and on the jacking pucks, and not having much luck. Is there a place to use a jack on a cross member or some such thing? Seems like I have also seen a picture of this being done in the rear with the ad of a piece of wood to span something. Also what about the front. Where is a good place to put the jack to get the car up?
Bill, Maybe I am just hard headed ( Marines tend to be that way) but with less 3 3/4" of clearance anywhere on this car where
do I put this block of wood?
I have tried 2X's of different width's but the 1 1/2" of thickness is no where enough.

I stack 2 - 2x8's - staggered so I go up one level at a time and then there is plenty of room for the jack.

Roland, I was trying to help you, There was really no need to pm me with the nice words you sent me,
You asked where do I put the blocks of wood and I replyed with "You drive up on them, And you seemed to think I deserved the PM you sent me.
Very nice, All I did was reply to his post asking where he puts the wood... Takes all kinds I guess, It is really too bad you decided to attack me, I could of been a lot of help for you as I am with others, It is members like that give other members a bad name, I won't lower my self to your standards and use foul mouthed stuff, You are living proof that anyone can buy a Corvette...... Thank You.
You try to help someone and this is what you get... O well... If I was wrong I would be the first to admit to it and apologize, But as you can see all I did was answer his question with out being a smart a$$ as he calls it. Have a great evening Roland. Mr.Bill

Well I tried everything but staggering, dumb me. I had some 2x10's, I cut them at a 60 degree angle on the radial arm saw. I then drove the car up on one of these to get a place to attach the second one in the stack. Glued and screwed the second one in place and this 3" in height was just enough to slide the lift arms in under the jacking pucks.
I guess I was over thinking this whole deal, but I had gotten frustrated and then nothing seemed to work. Thanks frsr06 you got me back on track.
Bill, You weren't trying to help, you were being a smart ***. What do you think anyone would think with that reply? That you took your recommended 2x6 and used it as a lever to PRY the car up?
You also are correct in your statement "anyone can buy a Corvette" Yea all it takes is money, no one is vetting future Corvette owners, you don't have to fill out a questionnaire so that someone, somewhere can be sure that each and every Corvette owner is truly qualified to own one of these cars. I mean just look at your case even wise ***'s get to buy one if they want to. All it takes is money and in todays world and in the case of the C5 it doesn't even take very much of that money to buy one.
Just have to comment on this thread...Mr Bill you did nothing wrong in response to this thread.... nothing that was combative in anyway!! Yes I am taking sides! ROB
Well I decided to tackle this oil change job, and needed to find the best, and easiest way to raise the Corvette in order to accomplish the oil change.
I pondered about ramps, pucks, home made ramps etc, and decided enough is enough, just get it done.
My 5000 lb jack is low enough that all I had to do was drive up on one 2x6 to get the car high enough to get the jack and block under.
I cut two blocks of 2x4 to use as jacking pucks, and that did the trick.
Once high enough for jack stands,
I did the same in the rear.
Now for the oil change.
Hotter than hell here in L.A today, so decided to wait until evening when it would be cooler.
Ready to start, and can't find any of my metric wrenches.
When I got rid of my Mazda hatchback, I must have rid myself of the metric wrenches as well.
Owning just domestic vehicles, I didn't think I would need metric again.
So presently, the vette sits on jack stands, and tomorrow morning it's out to the auto parts store to buy some metric wrenches.
So, what I have discovered is that I don't actually need ramps of any kind, nor store bought jacking pucks.
And to think it took me days to finally decide how I was going to get this vette in the air.
Sometimes I think we try an make things more difficult than they have to be.
As a side note, Roland, how could you take Bill's remark as being a wise ***?
The answer was straight forward.
You asked how to raise your car, and he answered, drive up on a 2x6, then use a jack.
What is wise *** about that?
Maybe you were just having a bad day.
I would hope that is all it was.
Bob.
I hope you got the car raised high enough for your needs.
I almost spit my coffee out when reading this thread!
Now, man up; you owe Bill an apology. He is without a doubt one of the best assets to this forum. He gave you sound advise; nowhere close to being a smart-***.

I did in deed get the car were it was needed to get on the lift. As to old Wild Bill, I took my complaint with him private. You do understand the meaning of the word private don't you? He then choose to make it public on his own. If the worst I had ever been called was a Smart *** I would be pretty happy. You guys can be as Politically Correct as you want to be, and defend the cat as much as you want I do not owe him an apology and he sure is not going to get one from me. Don't like what I have to say - then don't read it!

I sincerely hope that you never have to seek any more advice for your car on this forum.
Something tells me your days of getting helpful advice on this forum in the future are seriously limited.

Harbor Freight sells a jack that will go under a 3 1/2" car. Should do just fine for you, if your car has 3 3/4" clearance. Fast pumper too...if you follow H.F.com you can get this on sale for a slow as $39.95 (Which I did!)
