Today I decided to install my LMC5 on my 99 mn6 car. I have had it sitting in a drawer for a couple of years and watched the video on youtube on the the LMC5 install by Compliance Parts a couple of times today and it looked pretty simple.
The CL recall was done at the dealership when I first got the car 6 yrs ago and had no issues since bur was just trying to prevent future problems.
Disconnected the battery, removed the manual relay and the swapped in the 3 wires into the BCM thinking this is simple.
When I finished the install I then proceeded to start the car and to find the dreaded pull key wait 10secs with a locked steering wheel. Called Compliance with no luck as there was no one available on a Sunday afternoon and took there kit off and put it back to stock and all is working again as it should.
Not sure what I did wrong but will wait to talk to Compliance when they get a chance to return me call.
Can the CLB one be used on a manual if the the recall has been done? I have read the relay has to bypassed for it to work.
I have been procrastinating this for a while and am discouraged with the outcome.
I have been reading these threads for several years and already had one tow job to the stealership about 5 years a ago and don't want another!!!!
I went and ordered a CLB and might have better luck with it, if I cant get the LMC5 to do the trick!
It's possible you have one of the oddball cars (mine is one also) and need the LMC5R instead of the one you have. I had to go this route on mine. Just give Compliance a call tomorrow morning and they'll take care of you.
Return the CLB. The LMC5 is a much better product.
Just got a call from Richard from Compliance and was very helpful and will re install the LMC5 when I get a chance.
That is awesome customer support!!!! I will update with results!
What is this LMC5 you talk about? Also how can I know if my newly acquired 03 Z06 has had the steering lock recall done?
hey big bird I had the same question when I bought mine, the response I got was go out to car and try to turn the steering wheel without even putting the key in, I did that and steering wheel turned so I knew some sort of bypass had been done...
Whether your problem is an incorrectly installed LMC5 or your car needs one of the other two variations of the LMC5 product, YOU WILL get the problem resolved completely with the assistance of Richard. Curtomer service second to NONE.
Yes Richard was more than willing to help, when I originally installed the LMC5 everything worked as it should and the column lock was in the lock position when I disconnected the negative wire form the battery.
He informed me that I need to have the column lock in the unlocked position by pulling fuse #23 to have it unlocked before installing the LMC5. Hopefully this will help.
Cudos to you 8VETTE7 as I have read dozens may be hundreds of your responses regarding this GM cluster F#$%

Crap just went to the garage and checked for the steering lock recall. CRAP the recall hasn't been done the wheel locked but thank goodness the wheel unlocked when I put the key in it.
Likely the Recall Service HAS been done to the car but that does NOT make the column be unlocked all the time. The purpose of the recall was to "prevent the car from being driven with a locked column". For manual trans cars that means they programmed the fuel shutoff speed to be 2mph. If the BCM ever gets into a state where it "thinks" the column is locked when it should NOT be locked it signals the PCM to enable fuel shutoff. When the vehicle reaches 2mph the PCM shuts off fuel.
Another thing that can happen without a CLB or LMC5 installed is that the electrical path between the BCM and the lock motor can be interrupted preventing either the lock or unlock signal from reaching the lock motor or the "completed" signal from the lock motor from getting back to the BCM. In those cases the car can be stranded with both the column physically locked and the 2mph fuel shutoff enabled.
Installing an LMC5 abandons ALL the factory and recall components and connects a very reliable device directly to the BCM so that the LMC5 responds to the BCM keeping it thinking the column lock system is functioning correctly. Both the CLB and LMC5 disconnect power to the lock motor with the lock pin in the retracted or unlocked position. The column will never physically lock again if the device is properly installed.
Thanks man looks like I'll be ordering the LMC5 pretty soon. I understand that its best to address the column lock issue before it becomes an issue. I just want to make sure I never have to worry about it.
