Default fast 92 or 102?

looks like I'm going to replace knock sensors been getting a code p0327 and since i'm taking the intake manifold off figured might as well upgrade it

car currently has LG Lt's, cat'ed X, Vera ram, tune and soon Billy Boat axle back

future plans are heads and cam hope to be around 450 +/- rwhp just a nice daily not a track beast or any thing like that so witch intake would be the best to go with is a ported 92 enough or should I just shoot for the 102?

thanks

I thought I read the FAST 102 had clearance issues with the firewall/cowl.

I have a Fast 102 on my C5 Z and it is a very tight fit but the manifold does clear the firewall/cowl. Granted the manifold was installed with the engine out of the car.

from what i'm reading the 102 is tuff to dial in for most tuners

when swapping to the fast intake do i need any extra parts or just the intake?

IMO 92 should work fine with stock displacement no point of a 102 unless 4xx ci.. I'm running a ported 90 on my 383

The 92 will be more than sufficient enough for stock cubes..u will have better luck with the 92 over the 102 in my opinion..also easier to tune with the 92

Just my experience....

I heard that too many folks were having issues with clearance on the FAST102's on C5's.
I did NOT want to chance that I would be one of the ones with clearance issues.
I was planning to install mine in my garage myself.

Read this post..
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...102-on-c5.html

I chose to just go with the FAST92 since it was plug and play.

Here are my results with my ported Fast92, and ported LS2 TB.

Thanks !

LS1/LS6 78mm TB will not mount on a Fast 92 or 102 manifold.
Manifolds are 4 bolts to mount. LS1/LS6 TBs are 3 bolts to mount.

Your better off putting on the 90mm LS2 on anyway for better flow.

I agree that the Fast 92 is sufficient for a stock cubed car. And with the fitment issues that have been reported with the 102 I'd go with the 92. Since I have the 102 on my stock cubed car already and it clears the cowl and I don't have any issues with it.

The driveability issue that people talk about with the 102 stuff is from the TB not the manifold but put a smaller LS2 TB on it and no issues. That is what my tuner has told me and I do trust him so that is exactly what I am doing.

With a Fast 4 bolt manifold installed the only thing that you will need to make it work in your C5 Corvette is an electrical harness that you use on your throttle body instead of the stock connector.

Google "casper electronics throttle body adapter" its a plug and play type deal

Hasn't it been proven that there are still gains to be had with the 102 even on a stock motor? Why would you not want the extra top end?

Yes there are some gains with the 102mm.
I'm sure it will vary depending on other mods you have on the car.
5-10 maybe I heard.
Aside from the clearance issues seen on a lot of cars... there are also added costs too.
For one you need a different fuel rail setup.
The LS1/LS6 fuel rail will not fit the 102mm. (From what I read somewhere).
I have also heard that there are clearance issues with the 102 TB's.
I think it was hitting the water pump or something ?

I don't remember all the specifics...

For "me" it was not worth all the trouble going with the 102.
I kept reading folks that were struggling with the install.

I'm just trying to lay out all the issues I read a few years ago so that the OP can make an informed decision.

thanks for all the input every one

I've read you need to swap the water pump, fuel rails and something else on top of all the fitment issues that's a can of worms I'm not opening for 10 to 15 extra Hp rather try to make it up some place else for the money and hassle

glad i found out about the 102 now i was ready to by one off a local guy today that's a bullet I dodged thanks you u guys

the hunt for a good used 92 and ls2 Tb is on

Right on, I just figure if you're going to upgrade from the LS6 intake which is already pretty good you might as well go all the way up to a ported 102 and be done with it rather than leaving power on the table. I thought it was just a matter of possibly requiring shorter motor mounts (available off the shelf from Hinson) though, which most of these 10-14 year old cars could probably use anyway. Wouldn't anyone putting a bigger intake on also benefit from a fueling upgrade too?

I know the cost is higher to do the intake + TB + MAF + mounts + fueling, but they all seem like worthwhile upgrades to me. It wouldn't surprise me if you could hit 400+ whp by doing that plus a dyno tune on a stock C5Z.

Hell a nice carbon fiber vented hood with a little extra space for the intake would also be a very worthwhile upgrade both at high speeds and in cornering.

I'm a weirdo focused on lap times though so what do I know!
