Default Tint Pic Request--Coupe, rear hatch only?

I have a 2004 Silver Coupe. I have been considering tint on the rear and sides for some time, but haven't quite pulled the trigger. Some days I feel that I don't want to do the sides at all but wondered how this would look? Does anyone have this setup and what % tint did you go with. Pics would be great to help me visuallize, bonus if your car is Silver!

I suppose I could just go have it done and if I don't like it, go back for the sides later. Just trying to save the inconvenience of multiple trips. Personally I was thinking very light on the sides anyway (35% max).

For comparison sakes, what cost would be appropriate for this type of job? I was quoted $260 by a local shop a few weeks ago to do both doors and the hatch. I thought that was high, but it was 3M brand and supposedly a premium product..though I don't recall the series name now.

The price given is in the ballpark but a little high; I paid $180. Here's my coupe with limo tint on rear and whatever the max legal % is on the sides. You might want to think about using plain black vinyl at the top of the rear window where it typically bubbles because of the dots on the glass.

I had my sides and rear hatch tinted. I went with a light shade. Doing the rear hatch made it look darker inside so to keep the LEO's from pulling me over, I kept it light.
There's a ceramic tint that is light shaded and blocks a lot of UV rays. I'd look into that.

My '04 coupe came with the windows untinted. IMO, it looked horrible. Basically looked like an unfinished job, which it was.

I had the sides done and the back redone with ceramic tint. Paid $100, but I work at a dealership so that was cost. I think normally it's around $180 - $200.

Looks way better. Stays much cooler.

Just did a quick search on Ceramic and got a website called Precut Auto Tint. https://www.precutautotint.com/precu...1997-2004.html

Hadn't thought about installing it myself. Anyone use these guys before? I've installed vinyl decals and full body stripes on previous cars, seems like the same process. The hatch would probably be a b*itch though due to the contour and size. 2-person job for sure until you get set up to squeegee out the solution, or just have to do half at a time...

Found a few shops in the area I can call too and get quotes for Llumar Ceramic. Will check into the other top brands as well.

I'm considering this as well - I read somewhere that there was some concern about matching the "dots" at the top of the hatch glass...

Any feedback on that from anybody?

Have them use black vinyl there instead of tint; a good installer should be able to match the curvature of the antenna in the glass.

15% sides, 35% hatch. The dots are difficult. Mine was ~ $300 due to the more expensive sun block 3M film. Gotta have that here in AZ.

Hi Mike

A couple of old threads from when I had mine done that may help you:

I had mine done at Formula One on Spring Forest. They appeared to have moved and changed names. Have no idea if the same installers happen to be there. At the time they were well aware of the dot issue and knew a technique for applying. It has held up very well. Let me know if you want to look at it in person.

I think having just the hatch done would look unfinished with so few windows.

20% all the way around

Before (not the best shot)

After

Looks a lot better with the windows tinted

Don't think I have seen it and I don't think it would look very good (sorry). Personally I like the silver with tinted windows and the halo also redone in black as posted above.

This was when I bought it....super dark..I pulled a police officer over and asked him to check my tint for legality....he said back was ok by law but sides were not...I went straight to tint place and had sides taken off and the darkest allowed by law put on.

this is what it looks like now...the sides are not near as dark....I think 35% is the legal limit in ga (not sure about that)<br/>Tint is a must!!!!

I love tint on my cars, but I had 20% on my C4, with the top off I could not see out of the back in the daytime, night it was a little better! My C5 now has 30% sides and rear LOVE IT! No issues day or night. $150.00 but he has done all my cars! With the amount of shrinking of the film needed to fit the back window, I don't see how they could sell pre cut sets.
I agree looks finished.

I got limo tint all around. Looks awesome. Not quite legal, but never had issues. The only down side is that with the roof dow on a really sunny day it's kind of hard to see in my rear view mirror (middle one).
I have the car at the paint shop now. I can take pictures with the windows down, so you can see what it would look like with just the rear done.
I had it done for $150 with no seams on the rear windows whatsoever, but I know the guy.

Don't worry about the pics. I've been thinking more about it and reading through the posts, I now realize I need to do all three windows for this to look it's best. Now I'm just starting to contact local shops and get quotes. So far I'm gotten $260 and $299 + $75 more if I want Ceramic. Don't think I need that after reading about it. Would be nice, but already insanely priced mod compared to what other forum members are quoting.

Some other things on my winter car have popped up, so the tint on the Corvette will likely get put off yet another year.
