Default GM Buy Backs

Any help out there on how to find out the reason for a GM buy back? I am interested in an '03 vert that list a buy back on the car fax. I would like to know more about the reason. How can I research this?

VIS report from any GM dealer will provide insights if you have the VIN . . .also, CarFax may have some info, but don't hold your breath.

Trying to make lemonade out of a lemon?

I would definitely pull the history of the car. If it originally was a California car, it may be ok as their lemon laws are extremely consumer friendly compared to other states. All of the N54 powered "lemons" seemed to come from California when I was searching.

Is the car fax the best way to research?

I would go with the first recommendation which was to get the dealer records. If I'm not mistaken, there are a few people on the forum that can help you as long as you have the vin number. Carfax is another resource but expensive and not always reliable.

If the GMVIS is still available there should be info that may help you.

One Forum member posted that GM was no longer keeping that info for cars over 10 years old so it may no longer be an option.

Post back your results at obtaining the GMVIS report please.
Thank you!

In my experience GM does not buy back its products unless it absolutely has too, so why go looking for trouble with a previous lemon.

There are plenty of fine Corvettes for sale out there, skip this one.

While there may be some exceptions, buybacks are usually done when a problem just can't be fixed in a reasonable period of time or a certain number of attempts at repair (lemon law). The car may have finally been fixed, but I do agree that there are plenty of C5s out there that do not have that tainted history to them.
