Any help out there on how to find out the reason for a GM buy back? I am interested in an '03 vert that list a buy back on the car fax. I would like to know more about the reason. How can I research this?
I would definitely pull the history of the car. If it originally was a California car, it may be ok as their lemon laws are extremely consumer friendly compared to other states. All of the N54 powered "lemons" seemed to come from California when I was searching.

I would go with the first recommendation which was to get the dealer records. If I'm not mistaken, there are a few people on the forum that can help you as long as you have the vin number. Carfax is another resource but expensive and not always reliable.

Best source of info on any GM service work done on the car at GM's expense would be the GMVIS for the VIN. Send an email to Gene along with the VIN and ask him to EMAIL you the GMVIS.
In the subject line . . .and the vehicle description with Vin in the body - - someone will run it for you and report back - - amazing the resources here on the forum . . .

There are plenty of fine Corvettes for sale out there, skip this one.

While there may be some exceptions, buybacks are usually done when a problem just can't be fixed in a reasonable period of time or a certain number of attempts at repair (lemon law). The car may have finally been fixed, but I do agree that there are plenty of C5s out there that do not have that tainted history to them.
