My car is going into dealer tomorrow for crossover pipe problem (gas leak). A couple questions my car is 04 auto trans I'm told they have drop rear end. If so will car need 4 wheel aligment when year end is dropped. Car has around 15,000 miles on it should I have gas filters replaced that are in tanks? Any thing else I should be aware of or do. Thanks for your responses.
I think a 4 wheel alignment is good insurance against installation malpractice. What does your owner's manual say about fuel filter replacement intervals?
Do you mean crossover, like exhaust crossover pipe?
Mine is an 03 vert A4. When I changed my starter this spring I dropped the pipe on the driveway in about 20 minutes laying on my back with the car on jack stands. On a lift it would take half the time. Why remove the transaxle? Am I off base here?
IMHO the dealer will recommend, or perform the work you request to pump up ther service revenue. I have been a victim of that with previous rides. I also am not really a believer in fixing something that works perfectly fine. You are more likely to mess it up than prevent a failure that may not happen. I would recommend you leave well enough alone.
Do a search for this, it may or may not be covered. Last I read on it was under 10yrs or 100,000k covered by gm.

Just a update on my car fuel crossover repair was done. Dealer replaced driver side tank ,crossover pipe ,insulator, hose, gasket and some seals. They were able to remove old tank without dropping rear end. My car is a 04 Auto trans. Happy not to have gas smell and very happy I had a extended warranty. My cars vin was in the area for the special warranty for crossover problem ,But that was only for 10 years after in service date. Hope this helps out anyone else with crossover problem.

good to hear they didn't need to drop my tank either. They replaced my fuel pump as well as the crossover etc. It was done thru GM's service bulletin at N/C
Mine failed in two area's. I'm not sure of proper name of part I think it's called heat connector. Looks like a nut with threaded top located on top of left tank, nut with threaded part looks to be plastic and a cream /yellow color. Plus the seal that was near were hose get connected.

Good for you to post the end result. Too many times people ask for assist but never follow-up with the resolve.
The part that fails is called a bung. Bad connector to the fuel tank in the crossover. The bung to which the crossover tube is attached usually cracks. Heard it was from glue that fails to withhold to specs. Me thinks, in addition to the glue factor, it could be from plastic that simply wears down either from pressed in place so long and/or old age.
Anyhoo, 8Vette7 is quite an authority on this issue and has gone to great lengths to help members understand it all... http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=2430894 Go to page 1 then to page 33 and work your way back.
