Thanks Folks: Bic Lighter Spring Repaired Washer Button
Folks,
Thanks for the bic lighter spring repair idea to fix the broken wiper washer button on my 2002 Vette.
Finished the mod tonight. Cut the bic lighter spring to match the length of the original washer button spring. Have one original spring and one modified spring. Cost me $1.25.
Has anyone had this repair in their car for a long period of time. Does it hold up?

First I've heard of this fix. If it holds up, that's a great fix to what could have been an expensive repair. Do you have any kind of write-up on the procedure or is it as simple as popping the original button off and replacing the old spring with a new one and reassembling the button?
Just did this last night.
1. Destroy a bic lighter and remove spring.
2. Try to find one of the original springs (search floor board)
3. Cut bic spring to length using original as template.
4. Place to springs at the 12 and 6 o'clock position.
*on the button itself i very carefully flexed the two flanges at the 3 and 9 o'clock position so they would grab the inside of the stalk, careful not to snap them! a very gentle flex, or maybe a tad bit'o'heat.*
5.line up button and springs and insert!
6.Done. Dollars saved: approx $175.
Holla at me
Take some fire to these flanges, but only for a second or two and oh so gently bend them outward. (do this before destroying lighter)
spring in here
place springs on poles.
line up spring at 12 and 6 o'clock and insert!

Had to revive an old thread, Went to turn on washer and button stuck in the pressed in position. The washer fluid would not stop spraying until I removed the key! The BIC lighter spring (beneath the flint) is a perfect fit and it is long enough you can cut in half to replace both springs! Thanks !!
Wow. I guess I need to do this. Had no idea. I popped my button off ages ago and put some plastic between the contacts so the sprayer just doesn't work. This is awesome.
