Here is my old G8. Much better looking car than a 1st gen V. I wish I had never sold it 
The second gen V is a much better car than the G8, but at twice the price of a comparable G8, it should be
As far as a BMW being "killer on the wallet", if you take one to the dealer, it's time to pepper your angus. If you are a DIY guy, then they aren't really different than any other car to maintain. Honestly, any car in this category is going to be expensive to maintain.
