Researching cutouts when I came across this photo:
of what appears to be a Z06 Ti muffler with the coolest cutout setup I've ever seen. Does anyone know whose car this is on? I'd kill to have this on my car if I could find someone willing to weld Ti and do this good of a job with it.
When I was looking at cutouts I found that same picture. What I ended up doing was purchasing DMH low-profile cut outs and placing them on the 90° band prior to the mufflers. It is still basically the same concept of what you are doing, it just requires less welding.
I have seen that pic before, I think its a stock muffler but i dont think it is a Ti muffler. making that would not be hard other then finding Titanium flanges to match the cut out.
They merged into one tip as well. I would just like to be able to swap tips to something like that, but still have two on my Ti system. Looks like they have a cut at end, and a slip fit tip, with tip pipe going into muffler pipes.
Funny that you guys bring this up, im actually working on this exact idea with z06 titanium mufflers. I just received the flanges that I had cut out by my local water jet guy. Ill be posting a thread soon, but probably after my deployment that just popped up.
For me if you are putting in cutouts you want them before the restriction. The muffler is not the restriction on a modified car. What is the restriction is where under the transmission the pipes go from 3" to 2.5". This applies if you have a setup like LG headers and x-pipe. This is also why LG created the big 3 exhaust. The pulse travel is impacted by the reduction in pipe size. A bad pulse exit will reduce mid range torque. I have some dyno pulls I posted in the past where you can see the peak impact of my cutouts was 5 rwhp. The big impact was the mid range torque I picked up by having a better pulse exit putting them before the 3" to 2.5" reduction.

That looks like Tony Mamo's setup he put together many years ago. Tony is a perfectionist on the details of everything he works on. He is head of R&D at Airflow Research "AFR" in case you wanted to contact him. He posts on LS1tech from time to time so you may shoot him a PM there or on here on CF.
