Default corvette tax

All I got to say is some of you guys out there should be ashamed of yourselves. Every one bitches and moans about the corvette tax. Well some of you guys are absolutely smoking cracked trying to take advantage of your fellow corvette mates. Charging a ridiculous amount of money for parts. Whether it's after market or O.E.M.

One guy on here graciously offered to sell me some fixed no name piece of crap fixed lights with halos, that are instant tickets from the cops. They were recently discontinued for $100 more than they sold for all over the internet brand new shipped.

Another guy offered to sell a complete headlight assembly for $350 more than another person sold me two complete headlight assemblies shipped.

I just think it's kind of disgusting how some people operate to try to make a buck.

I feel so much better venting that out .

Yes, some people ask what could be considered an unreasonable price for a part. But if it is not a price you want to pay, the simple solution is not to buy it and find one somewhere else. No use getting upset over it.

Right I forgot I haven't been a forum member long enough to complain.. let's just sugar coat everything like it's all rainbows and waterfalls. Yeah your right I can just move on.. just like you could have just moved on and posted an another thread.

There's nothing wrong with complaining about how some people here try to rake fellow members over the coals. I'm just glad there are still reasonable people on here selling good parts at good prices.

Hmm maybe I shouldn't have complained about your comments until I've been a member longer... sorry my bad ;-)

I'm not upset about it. I'm venting about it.. maybe if more people spoke up and vented about it. People would get the hint not to try to pass on the corvette tax to each other.

It's not about prices. It's about people trying to take advantage of other people to make a buck.

Its like anything else you own. Do your research so you know what a good price is. Its so easy in this day in age of the internet.

Vent if it makes you better but this is what our economy is based on free market. People can only get what people pay and most people will do research if they care if they are being ripped off or not.

Thanks for your service I'm also in the military but it's not going to change the prices on anything. I recently paid 800 dollars for a PCM for my 97 vette becuase they are no longer made. It's the price we pay to drive these cars. You can always buy off brand items to save u money like I did with my long tube headers. You get what u pay for though and my first set cracked a weld and I had to buy a whole new set as they were not made anymore . Sure it sucks but I like owning a vette and knew it was going to be expensive. And not to be a dick but the people on these forums will go out of there way to help you as they have done for me on several occasions. So be mindful and don't burn bridges. Besides for that bitch away.

The new member bit wasn't meant as a negative, It is just most members know how things are in the for sale section. It does no good coming on the forum and complain about it, Just buy it or don't and if a seller has something that is priced out of sight and it don't sell he will get the message, and if someone pays way too much then they didn't do the homework, I know what a good price and a bad price is because I do my homework, If I see someone selling something (Which I do all the time) that is way over priced I move on and laugh to my self.
Thanks for your service, U.S. Army here 70-73.

I think you misunderstood the veteran reference. I was in no way claiming that being a veteran entitles me to some sort of discount. It was stated because the comment I was addressing said it's a free country and a free market. I support it being a free country and a free market. I supported by joining the service.

I understand where you are coming from . I am in no way saying and or advocating putting on inferior parts. Part of the reason people pay through the nose is because as it was stated above people don't do there do diligence. They don't do any research. They have no idea what something cost new. What parts are worth.

He'll one guy on here wanted to charge me more money for a used part then the dealership wanted for the same part new. How do I know this because I researched it. I knew how much it was new from chevy.

Hey people are free to try to gouge fellow vetted owners
And rip them off. Just as I'm free to call them out for doing exactly that. That's the whole point. When a guy wants to try to sell me one headlight assembly 650 plus shipping for his used beat up looking headlight. I have every right to think he's an awhile for charging an excessive "corvette tax" another great forum member sold me two complete assemblies without the dam corvette tax for less than half the price.

So this is not a case of getting what you pay for and buying no name knock off parts like chinese made headers on my car. That's an entirely different subject and not what I'm saying at all. As far as burning bridges is concerned I'll take my chances of pissing off the people price gouging me because I'd never do business with people with no moral compass. I'd rather deal with and do business with the good and reasonable people on this forum. I'm sorry if I'm not a fan of ripping people off because you can. Wasn't raised that way.

Mr bill. I sincerely apologize. I totally took what you said the wrong way. I'm glad you clarified. I will always admit when I'm wrong. When it comes to the corvette tax. I'd never bitch on their tread about what they are asking. Just don't feel there is anything wrong with a separate thread for venting. I'm not naming names and calling out a specific person. Just venting about it.. maybe some of the people doing this will recognize themselves and maybe think better about taking advantage of other members. I highly doubt the forum was created for these people to act as predators and prey upon people that don't know any better.

When / if you see a part being sold by an individual here on CF, and you'd like to own it, just offer the guy what you think its worth. Although there are asking prices, many many times, the parts are sold to someone who made an offer. Some parts cost a lot because of the scarcity of certain items. Many times I've seen things that I thought "Really?" ... It happens everywhere, not just on CF... Lastly mr scottieg74, thank you for your service. I never get tired of telling our service people how much I appreciate them and their sacrifices.

I appreciate everyone's thank you for the service comments :-) that being said. I'm referring to ads I've placed that people responded to. I ask them how much they want and they are completely out of their minds with how much they want for a part. They can keep it. I appreciate your advice about private messaging someone with an offer on there threads.

But like I previously stated there should be a place for people to just vent. And trying to charge more money for a used part than the dealership wants brand knew is ridiculous and they should be told it's ridiculous. Not something a good and or reasonable person would do.

There already is such a place. Click on "forums" in the red bar at the top, then "help and feedback", then "transactions feedback".

Someone offered to sell an item at a price way more than it's worth? I'm not sure I've *ever* seen that before. How unusual.
