I recently sold my classic 66 Tbird soon after getting my 04 C5.
All the time I had that bird, when, or where ever I took that car, people would stop and stare, many making great comments about it, and many asking if they could take a picture of it.
Now, I am finding the same thing happening with the C5 since it was detailed at the body shop.
Old and young alike are complimenting the Vette.
I really didn't expect this.
I thought it would end the day I sold the Tbird.
An elderly lady approached me at the grocery store yesterday, and stated,"That is a beautiful ,beautiful car".
I get the same thumbs up from many who see the car passing while they are on the sidewalk.
Do any of you get this same treatment when you are behind the wheel of your Vette?
The only car I have ever had that happen with when I was driving around in a Jag XKE with the top down one summer some years ago. Girls literally ogled that car. Sadly I had only borrowed it!
But as the late, great Henry Manney said of the XKE - the "greatest crumpet catcher known to man. Very true.
A couple of weeks ago went to the store with Dad (he's 83, I'm 56) in my 01 Vert - top down. Had a lady in the parking lot say - "Nice car - You boys need to find some dates". We both laughed our a--es off.
I love my C5 but the car that got me the most looks and comments was my 1978 white Lotus Esprit and that was a blast to drive. An exotic, great handling like a gocart, (mid engine), incredible gas mileage and sound. Car weighed less than 2000 lbs, 140 HP 4 cylinder.
I also was stopped at a red light, an elderly lady carrying 2 shopping bags, crossing the street, stopped in front of my car, put the bags down in the middle of the road, gave me 2 thumbs up, then picked up her shopping bags and continued across the street. I really got a good laugh out of that.
Another time I pulled up to a Porsche 911 waiting for a red light to change, the girl in the passenger seat in the Porsche was looking at me and my car, and you wouldn't believe how absolutely pissed the driver of the Porsche was. That was really funny and it was better when I left him when the light turned green.
I also get complments every time I pull into a parking lot and people can't believe the car is 14 years old.
So sometimes these cars are really great whether you are driving around in them or just sitting in them. You can still have fun.

I get the nice car compliments quite a bit. We have a cruise night once a month during the summer months and a lot of people do take pics of the car, many times with them standing beside the car.
Feels pretty good that a 12 year old car can draw as much attention as it does.
I get a lot of positive remarks and my car is nice but no show queen. Had an encounter at Sam's Club some time back, a small boy maybe 4 years old was leading his mother by her hand towards me and said "I really like your car". I thanked him and his mother rolled her eyes a little and said, "He really loves cars, especially red Corvettes". I could have been that little boy many years ago but I was so shy I wouldn't have approached a stranger like that. I'm betting he'll own a Vette some day.
I'm also shocked by the reaction the car gets. We were riding through South Beach a couple of weeks ago and much to my surprise while stopped at a light a group of people ran up to the car and snapped pictures and flashed the the thumbs up. To say the least I turned to my wife and said "WTF its only a Corvette" - about 2 blocks later - sitting at a light - same thing - a couple of tourist types run up to the car and snap pics - yell great car etc.
I don't get it - those of you who know South Beach know that the Ferraris, Lambs, Bentleys, and just about any thing else you can think of are out there all the time.
But the Corvette certainly is a bonafide piece of Americana - no question.
Some guy at a meet was talking about my C5Z to me awhile back. He made the comment that it sure was a nice car. I said thank you. He said. "Wait, this is YOUR car?"
My Yukon cratered at 206,000 miles so I bought a new truck. Now I drive my 99 C5 more. I had a lady coming out of Dillard's yell "hey Corvette!" As I drove by. Funny, I never had one yell Hey Yukon!
I sold my 57 T bird last fall.
I've also owned Corvettes since 1969. There is no comparison when it comes to performance, however the T bird always got as many or more 'nice car' comment as any of my Vettes.
Taken the day I sold her. (the car)
I get comments on my heavily modded C5Z all the time...but around here, there are so many other nice (nicer) cars I sometimes don't get a lot of attention/play at some shows.
All good, mine is still faster than many of these others (for far less money).
