Wife had cervical cancer......then ovarian cancer...... and last year breast cancer......she is in remission and doing fantastic....... but the reality is..........who knows how long we have 3yrs, 5yrs, 10yrs.........?
Life is short.....hunt hard and drive a vette!
Touching/great story. Glad to hear things are going well. Your closing thought is exactly what inspired my plate!
Because I want to.
Because I can.
Because I appreciate a fine piece of machinery.
Because I like how it looks and how it rides, and how it makes me feel.
And do you really need to have to have a reason?
I was a big Japanese and European lover. To me, those people "got it" where Americans seemed more focused on drag racing and hot rods. I liked modern performance and road racing. After many years as a professional builder of Japanese cars, I wanted a change. One car I'd always loved was the Corvette. To me it was the one American car that kind of "got it". When the C5 came out, then they entered ALMS...I really started to want one. Fast forward years later and getting out of building Japanese cars, opened the door to Corvettes.
Now I'm all corvettes and bmw's. Corvette...at times, didn't really define America's sports car, but as of the C5 forward, it certainly has solidified itself as Americas true sports car. Racing has done that for GM...now they bring Cadillac and even Camaro with it. Now...the car companies are chasing GM in this arena. The Corvette has elevated the game in America...it's forced a change of mindset.
So, for me it's easy...it's the only American sports car I'll own....and own many I will.
I drive a Corvette, because they quit making Trans- Ams.
Seriously, went looking for a good used car and came across a beautiful Torch Red C5 about 5 years ago. Got a great deal on it and I was hooked on Vettes.
Saw a 2003 Z06 on line that I just had to have. Traded the 00 Coupe for the Z06 and now have 32000 miles on her.
1) I can
2) love the feeling of going "55",
3) it's my toy
4) they looks sharp
5) always wanted one since I was a kid!
And
Once with my wife, we passed a basketball court full of kids and we swear, every kid looked at the car. I wonder if one kid that day said to himself, #5 above.
it's always been a dream for my wife and I to have an 'extra' car we could have fun in. The Corvette was something we always admired since we both noticed them in high school (in the 70's) never imagining we would actually own one someday, let alone one that was in great shape. So for us we own and drive one to fulfill a dream, and at only 5 days since getting one, it's been everything we could have imagined!
I saw a black c5z in a parking lot. Couldn't take my eyes off it. That day I said to my friend "What does z06 stand for? I have to have one."
couple years later I got my Liscence. Then I bought a celica, then a 350z, then I drove a z06 and had to have it. Turned 19 and found my speedway white z and never looked back.

Growing up as young boy when C3's were still rolling off the assembly line I just fell on love with them. My dentist back then had a '73 Vette and took me for a ride, and that sealed the deal for life.
Being an American and Army Veteran, I view the Corvette as a symbol of freedom, hard work, and a constant reminder of how great this country is and what it can produce. Why do I drive a Corvette, is like asking me why I breathe.
I got lymphoma at 18 years old. It taught me that life was fragile and short. I have been living life to the fullest ever since. My bikes and boats have been a large part of it and finally my Corvette rounded out the package. Make every day a rock concert because we never know when they will call the final curtain.
OP... Very touching story indeed, I'm sure you have many many miles of enjoyment ahead for you both...
For me I converted savings to a C3 10 years ago, after an accident which shook me up!
Not massively useful with working on cars, with job and other commitments went C5 for more useable enjoyment wheni get time at weekends... Without fear of potential breakdowns etc... Don't get me wrong my C3 never let me download!
But I now have limited mileage classic insurance, 30 mpg ( sort of!) cheap tax over here in UK ( less than my Audi diesel) supercars thrill on a budget! Parts relatively available and cheap... If you had 911 for example, parts maybe double, well made etc, but costly to run who things go wrong..
It ticks all the boxes does my car.. And when things are crap.. Go out in it and it changes my mood every time...mean just driving round town for an hour... Smile on face every time!
