Default partitions / devider worth it?

my car is very loud on the inside filled with road noise I have a Pre Cut Insulation Kit coming in but wanted to know if the partitions / dividers really help any?

my wife would love the divider since it would keep her purse from flying in the trunk every time i get aggressive lol but thats not enough to make me buy one

so if you can tell me how do you like yours and how much of an improvement was it?

I was skeptical but it does help a decent amount. That being said, the car is still loud.

I put two layers of sound deadener in mine. Can't remember the brand name now... senility . But I have a divider in there just to stop things from flying if we ever get in an accident going fast enough to project objects from the trunk area.

I removed the divider once to see how much it helped. I couldn't hear any difference at all; not even a little bit. Two layers of deadener really quieted the car down remarkably. It's so quiet in the car we can carry a regular conversation without having to look at each other. KILLS the joy of hearing the tailpipes, though--at least when it's WOT, it's still loud enough to be fun.

The weight of the whole extra roll of deadener was about 20 lb as I recall--maybe 7-10 lb heavier than a "carpeted" particle-board divider.

I have a 2 inch black z6 emblem foam divider and it does a good job at:

1: Quieting the exhaust noise (20%).
2. Better sound from speakers
3. Smaller cabin space to air condition.

I highly recommend.

Same here, it helps. But I still plan to rip out the interior and install a heat and noise reduction kit I purchased awhile back. It's still a very road noisey car...

I'm running slp loudmouths and i noticed a great deal of noise reduction in the cabin using a partition. Of course it serves as other purposes also.

Its was basically designed as a street legal race car, did you really expect it to be as quiet as a base c5? They went as far as to use a light weight windshield and back window to make the car as light as possible, pretty sure they skimped on sound deadining material too. Anyway, I made my own divider out of 2" rigid foamboard and interior fabric. Looks completely factory and weighs like 2 lbs. Id say it cuts down on noise from the rear of the car a good 25% or so. Plus it keeps stuff from going into the trunk which is another big plus.

I was in the same boat a few years ago. I installed the the pre-cut insulation kit with the ensolate layer. It quieted just a tad, but still was not where I wanted it to be. So I bought a partition, the heavy type, with plywood or whatever it was on the inside, with carpeted surface all around, and was able to achieve the sound level that I wanted inside my cabin. Definitely quieted my interior more than the insulation kit. So my answer to you is DO IT!

Are most people getting these from Southern? I am going to get the tray & divider as I too am sick of crap flying around. The sound doesn't bother me, but the small cabin to keep cool would be an added benefit in the summer. I jammed the brakes the other day when a group of turkeys decided to run across the road in front of me and my golf clubs went flying through the trunk into the passenger compartment and my 7 iron was about 1" from the windshield....could've been pretty crappy

Mine is from southern, I didn't get the tray though. In hindsight the tray would probably help the partition stay in place - as is a bag a of golf clubs hitting it from behind would totally dislodge it and you'd probably still have stuff in your lap.

I pull the partition and everything whenever I go to track/autox though so I figured the tray would just be one more thing to be in the way every weekend.

Got mine from Southern Car Parts. I do believe that it does cut down somewhat on noise. I got it really to stop stuff from flying into the drivers compartment in the event of something going wrong. Mine is securely fastened but you never know.

I would buy another, I guess that is the telling part.

Mine is from Southern as well. The tray didn't interest me but it might if it was a daily driver. I spend a lot of time at the track so it's not permanently mounted. I think it makes a big difference sound wise, people can't see if you have anything in the trunk and it looks good IMHO.

I have had my partition and tray from Southern for almost 9 years now. I could not have been more pleased with them. The tray does help the partition stay up, but also the storage and drink holders are better. The stock C5 drink holder offers no support if you take turns. The tray drink holders are a lot deeper and keep the drink from spilling. The tray compartments are nice, as I have the older model the new one is even better with the hidden lids.

I'm very happy with my SCP partition. Less noise and keeps things from sliding into trunk area. Don't have the tray, but I might get one in the future.
