Default Headlight problem

HELP!!!! Ok, so the drivers side headlight was fluttering so I ordered and installed a new brass gear. Worked fine for a while. Now the headlight is down and won't come up at all and seems to be jammed. I ordered a complete new motor but I can't get the damn thing up at all to remove the shroud and cover to replace the motor. How do you get the thing up when it is jammed in the down position. Any help would sure be appreciated. Thanks to all.

There's a manual "crank" on the back of the motor, it has a rubber boot covering it. Open the hood, and the boot is just to the right of the cover, pull is off and if I remember correctly turn it counter-clockwise.

Thanks for the reply. But that was the first thing I tried. I think the bushing is toast in the brass gear I put in. Cranking the manual **** has no effect whatsoever. And it is jammed down tight. I can't even assist it up while someone else turns on the lights. But again, thanks for the input.

If that's the case, you might have to bite the bullet and use a prybar from the rear of the light to force it up. Try it with the lights turned on and you might be able to move it just enough that it will raise on its own without causing any damage.

Can you not just remove the light assembly?

When I removed mine I had to have the lights in the "up" position to get to all of the screws.

Damn forgot, the main bolts are under the cover...

OP
Since you have a new motor you may have to try and use the pry bar

Yup!!! Have tried everything I can think of. Tried putting a thin mat on the fender and prying up from the front of the headlight lip with a large screwdriver while someone else toggled the headlight switch. No luck. But thanks for the reply.

You could try taking off the access panel underneath the front end that you get change the blinkers by and see if you can reach up through and unscrew the 10mm nut that holds the arm that controls the door?

See if you can find a short pry bar and try it from the back. You'll get more leverage on the appropriate parts from that angle.

Hope you are aware you have to crank the manual **** many times to get even alittle movement. Not just 5 or 6 revolutions but 20+for movement. I would have someone pry gentle like while you are cranking...can use a BIC pen to crank with. Good luck.

I use a hex-head bit on my cordless drill to crank mine.

Not sure if it can be reached with the hood open or from underneath, but as someone else had suggested to remove the pin in the arm that controls the up/down motion of the lights. Let us know how you do...good luck!
