Default Tires

I must be doing something wrong. I tried searching for "tire" or "tires" and I get a ton of results but almost nothing with tires.

I need to replace the tires on my 97. We don't race the car and I'm not interested in run flat tires. What tires are you using on your C5? The tires presently on the car are Sumitomo HTR ZII. Not sure I want the same tire.

Thanks for your help.

What you are doing wrong is using the CF search function, which is just this side of worthless. Go to Google, type in "Corvette Forum" and whatever search terms you want (e.g. "tires" and etc.). This will bring back far better search results for finding tire related threads.

Honestly, you could just scan through a few pages in the general section as there is a new tire thread almost every day.

At the end of the day, the best tire for your car depends upon how you drive the car and what you are willing to spend.

Good luck with your search!

i just went thru this 3 weeks ago - i ended up buying Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Pole Positions and couldn't be happier. I was replacing Michelin Pilot Sports ( non runflat ) and really liked them. I planned on getting the Pilot Super Sports but after talking to a Tire Rack guy he was running a great deal on these , said they were in the Top 5 rated high performance tires and saved me quite a bit of $$$ ! What I like about the Bridgetones is they are QUIET , ride great and grab the road ! Hope this helps.

you will probably get as many different opinions as members who respond to y our post. i replace the goodyear runflats on my 04 ce 6 spd convertible with hankook evo and i couldn't be happier with them. they are quiet, stick to the road, greatly improve handling and just about any thing else you could think of when replacing a stiff sidewall (runflat) tire with a regular one. the suggestion of tire rack is a good one. i have used them for tires for several of my different cars and have always been satisfied with their service and their pricing. a friend with a 2000 convertible replaced his runflats with nitto (not available from tire rack but check discount tire for one in your area if you wish). he was equally as impressed with those as i have been with the evos.

tire rack has them for 564 after mail in rebate. I bought mine when they were on sale. IIRC they cost me less than 600 bucks mounted.

Not sure if this link will work,

I was very lucky to find the car I willing to buy in silver 4XLR8N. It is my favorite color :-)

Thanks for all the responses. I decided to order the Hankook EVO tires from Tire Rack and have them delivered to a local Goodyear dealer who has a super duper tire machine that is Corvette wheel friendly.

If you want to do an upgrade at the same time, get a wheel/tire package from Tire rack. They come mounted and will fit new pressure sensors, so they are just bolt on. Definitely the easy way to do it. I went with 18/19 on my '98, in standard C6 tire sizes. Looks much better, IMO.

Default Why C6 tires?

You mention installing C6 tire sizes, is there a difference between C5 and C6 sizes? Why did YOU opt for the change? Thanks.

I replace my GY run flats with Continental EXTREMECONTACT DWS 06. I was looking for a softer ride and I wanted to be able to have a conversation and hear the radio at 75 MPH. I did get them at Tirerack and had them mount them. I am not a speed racer but I do drive fast. Not looking to go around corners at 60 and I'll never drive in the snow. Most of the tires are directional, these are not. The fronts can be swapped left to right and the rears can do the same.

The road noise is extremely low, the patched pots holes are quiet and now NOT a roof hitting experience, and I can have a conversation and listen to the radio at 100. Truly an amazing change in the car. I know that they are highly rated wet, dry and snow and that was also a contributing factor, you can never tell when you're going to get caught in a rain storm.

Since I've put these tires on, I can now hear that I have rear wheel bearings going out so I'll have to replace those but at least I won't get stranded somewhere but before that I couldn't hear anything even with my hearing aids (old rock and roller).

I also was looking at BF g-Force COMP-2 A/S but all things told, spent a little more on what I got. It's an expensive choice, good luck with your purchase.

Nitto 555 on my 99 vert. My beating the hell out of my cars days are long gone. Currently cruising and some spirited driving when conditions allow for safety. The nittos do everything I need well, seems to have good adhesion, quiet and were very reasonably priced. Have a good one!

Replaced my original run flats with General G-Max. I like them ,quiet and they handle well. I've gotten caught in the rain and they still handle well.

Primarily looks. The C5's OEM 17/18 combination look a bit small (and dated) compared to other cars, IMHO. Heck, 18's are family car tires these days. I know going to 18/19 with stock C6 tire sizes is not a big change, but combined with a little lowering, they fill out the wheel wells very nicely.

I played around with the ride height until the space over the tires was about the same as the gaps front and rear between the tires and the wheel wells. To me, it just looks "right", not slammed or anything silly. Plus, 18/19's are not so big that it looks like the brake rotors are way too small, which pushes you to go for bigger brakes, etc.
