Default Modify Shmodify........We are ----- C5

Why don't the mechanical and stereo mods get the same "flaming" as cosmetic mods? Just seems to me if you put a Blackwing CAI on your car, it's OK. Or, if you add Kooks long tube headers and Borla exhaust, that's cool....If you add a Double Din head unit and upgrade speakers, even add a sub (if you get them from Dennis)......that is alright.....
You can upgrade your headlights or fog lamps, but your can't add LED's to your dash, fender vents or tag light...
God forbid if you do some minor cosmetic changes to your C5 exterior....well, except wheels and tires of course, unless your going with Wagon Wheels and run flats (satire....)

Is it OK to relocate your oil sending unit... is this a "mod"
Is it wrong to get rid of the noisy, stiff riding run flats....is that a "mod"
If you change to Bilstein shocks have you crossed the proverbial "modding" line.......
Can you tint your windows to keep harmful, harsh UV rays from destroying your interior or is that just smart...not a mod?

mod·i·fy
ˈmädəˌfī/
verb
gerund or present participle: modifying

make partial or minor changes to (something), typically so as to improve it or to make it less extreme.
"she may be prepared to modify her views"
synonyms: alter, change, adjust, adapt, amend, revise, reshape, refashion, restyle, revamp, rework, remodel, refine;
informaltweak, doctor

Did you replace your TPMS sensors with OEM......or did you modify your vette?

One of the coolest things about this forum aside from essential and vital info...is getting to see what and how others trick out their rides...
IF you don't like it, even if asked......there is no need to get rude about it......we all are vette owners and probably have done some form of modification to our cars.....different brand oil filter..... aftermarket air filter......etc..... so LIGHTEN UP......its all good....you don't like and wouldn't do it, that's cool......many of those outside the circle of trust would LOVE to own anyone of our pride and joys......and we need not be all pissy towards each other over the small things....
I know discussion is important and that we can learn, grow, and help each other with problems that arise and that we can actually see...what others are doing to improve or alter their rides and how to do it, and express our feelings ( likes or dislikes) about it. Even make suggestions....and when done with respect and tastefully we can all get along......ahhh

Yes I feel better now....

Ya'll have a great day and enjoy your C5 corvette if it's bone stock or highly modified, pure as the day it rolled of the assembly line or barely recognizable......we are---- C5

Mods that make the car perform better or become more useful are quite different from cosmetic mods that make the car look ridiculous.

1. Cosmetic mods that are tasteful and actually improve upon the factory look.....sure (purpose driven). 2. Cosmetic mods strictly for the purpose of "look at me" and make the car look ridiculous (opinions, of course)......no way (asking, what is the purpose of this?).

3. Performance mods that actually make a performance car perform better.....absolutely.

Combine 1 and 3 together and you got a knock out.

Mods that make the car look better and make it more personal are quite different than modifying performance and possibly shortening the life of your car.

Performance mods are also a lot of "look at me" see how much I spent and how fast I am, can you hear me now....how much performance enhancements are needed for the street on a base LS1 .... really...... its a great performer stock.
We just like to tinker and tweak.....that is cool.

I totally agree the combo of tasteful reasonable mods work.....

purpose......to be a little more open minded

Just don't expect me to pay more because you've modded it. You'll never get your money back unless you find a sucker to buy the car.

there is a sucker born every minute....Some sources claim the quote is most likely from famous con-man Joseph ("Paper Collar Joe") Bessimer

As far as I am concerned, unless someone else is paying for the mods, the only input that matters is my own.

Who says the car is going to be sold? Mine certainly will never be.

Nothing wrong with modifying a C5. Just don't expect everyone to like it as much as you do.

I think we can most agree that most mods will not add any value to your car......except to you. That is why most of my mods are very easily reversed..

You won't get the cost of your mods, but if you are patient, you WILL get more money. I've sold 7 Vettes, all modded, and all but one,for more than I had paid for them (used) many years earlier.

You are assuming (at least with your statement) that most that modify only uses their vehicles on the street. Plenty of us track our cars, and a stock LS1 is not very competitive with the newer performance cars on the market. At the end of the day people modify for a variety of reasons

Pretty well known fact that modifying a car reduces the value... most people don't modify for re-sale... occasionally you can find a buyer....

That's the beauty of parting out prior to a sale

Who decides what is tasteful and improving on the look and what is a "look at me" mod? I think blacked out lights all the way around look much better on my mag red vert. But a lot of people on here think I'm an idiot for doing it.

The owner of the car.

If you want to do something, do it. Who cares what a bunch of people on a forum think? There is no need to ask permission. When I posted I was stretching tires everyone called me an idiot but I did it anyway because it is something I wanted to do to achieve a certain look.

Of all the genres of cars I've been around, Corvettes take the cake for cheesiest mods. Nothing around it. Some of the stuff I've seen is just mega face palm worthy. With that said, everybody needs a good laugh now and then so do whatever floats your boat.

Just like everything else, it's in the eye of the beholder.
