Default will new tires help?

01Z--I have 6 year old firestone wide ovals--they have lots of tread-only 2000 miles--but no traction except 3rd gear--they feel harder compared to new tires--would new bridgestone 760 help that much?

After more research--with all the bottom end torque these Zs make- I don't think new tires would help that much unless I went with nittos-

yes new tires will hook... I have continental extreme contact DW and they are GREAT on the street with 430rwhp.

I just swapped from continental extreme contact DW to the RE760 sport's factory size as for traction its about the same 1st & 2nd are useless but I can tell you the RE760's has a softer and quieter ride as for handling the DW's are a "little" better but the RE760's are still pretty good for a daily i dont road coarse my car so the little bit of trade off for the quieter smoother ride was a plus in my case

really surprised thats your hooking with the DW's and 430rwhp my car only made 385rwhp and from a roll it just lets loose all of 1st even 2nd unless i'm in the upper range of it?

My tires are 6 years old and do feel alittle hard compared to new rubber--I think 1st and 2nd gear are worthless for traction-even with new 760s--guess ill just drive afew more years on what I have and than see whats out there--

I can tell you that Mickey Thompson drag radials size 305/35 18 will fit your stock rear wheels and make a noticeable difference. As for cornering, I seem to have no troubles, but then again I don't whip around corners at double the speed limit

I had the Wide Ovals when my car was stock, and they always had traction in 2nd gear. They held first gear most of the time. Of course, they weren't 6-year-old tires, either.

The Continentals held 1st gear all of the time.

The RE760s held 1st gear only on warmer days and better surfaces. I now have bolt-ons and a tune, and the RE760s rarely hold 2nd gear.

Nitto NT01's hooked for me. In this cooler weather, I'm spinning Nitto NT05's at the moment if its cold out.

I was wondering if anyone would recommend drag radials... if you want a tire that will hook straight line you will give up cornering to a degree... the best compromise I've personally used were toyo r888's but they aren't very cheap... with 420rwhp I would spin half of first and dead hook 2nd... I've added a lot of power since then and switched to nitto nt05r's and love them, they don't spin much at all (less than the toyos did with 420rwhp) with over 700rwhp... they handle corners better than I expected but I wouldn't get too crazy with them... other than the nt05r's the mt et street 2's would be my 2nd choice... drag radials will be the only thing going on the rear of my car as long as I own it but they aren't for everyone especially if you drive a lot you will burn through them fast... BUT if the dot codes on your tires are in fact 6 years old you need to get them off and replace them... just because the tread is good doesn't mean squat, the compound will harden with age which kills traction and they are prone to cracking and at worst could come apart or blow out while driving which would not be pretty

I bought new BFG Rivals a year ago this month. They do hook better but only after warmed up. They are a street/track tire which get stickier when they get warm. I kinda wish I had got Nitto drag radials as they still spin like crazy when cold in 1st and 2nd gear.
