Default 2004 Z06 build help

Just bought a 2004 Z06 today and need some advice on a build. I live in a state that I don't have to worry about inspections or emissions. My goal is to achieve between 400-450rwhp. No question in my mind I want to slap a cam in this beast but I need some guidance on which one. I'm looking for something thats aggressive but not so aggressive I have to have the motor worked. Longtube headers are also on my list. I'm looking for that exhaust sound that has the hollow clack that you love to hear when your at the drag strip watching the pro street cars lined up at the light. Not sure if I need to just run the headers and straight pipe it without cats? These are just a few ideas running in my mind but I'll let you seasoned vet folks direct me on this. Thanks in advance for you insight.

Header and a mild cam would put you between 410-425 HP.

Add a new set of heads and you should get between 440-450 with the Cam and Headers.

Those numbers would satisfy me for a little while. Would putting it on a dyno and getting a tune with that combo push me any further past that 410-425?

Easily. I am 390 with just CAI and Kooks 1 7/8 headers.

No question that this is the real way to unleash the monster but dropping that kind of money right now at Xmas, just ain't in the cards. The C5 is just a short fix before I jump to the C6. I will roll with minor mods this time like headers, CAI, and cam. That should get me around 415-440rwhp (data was given to me at the dyne shop in Richmond VA) until I make the switch. When the C6 in the driveway, supercharger will be on it. I'll play with the C5 for maybe a year or two then its off to the C6.

You would definitely need a tune with the headers without without a cam. A dyno tune may add a few more ponies, but definitely would help throughout the entire RPM range.

I would also add a Vararam CAI as well. Might want to go with HP wires as well.

You may get past the 425 mark with a really aggressive cam or on a liberal dyno with a great day run.

For a street combo, I would not recommend getting too aggresive with the Cam or it will suck as a daily driver.

420 is about 485-490 crank HP. Torque should go up as well, but at a higher RPM.

I've done this countless times needing "a fix" for immediate gratification. Later I always rationalized that the money invested could have been put towards my end goal which in your case is a C6. Realize that a CAI, LT's, cam and tune will set you back $4k or so. You can have your C6 $4k sooner if you hold off. I've seen A&A kits advertised for $6199 installed. I've seen used centri kits advertised for $3k and sometimes less. Consider what you invest because that money will not yield a return when you sell your C5z.

If you are dead set on doing something this would be a low cost temporary "fix" for your wants. To this list I would definitely add the Breathless Performance weld in cat delete pipe for more sound and power.
