I do not post often, and I am not trying get a heated debate started.
I have 2001 convertible of which I am the second owner. The previous owner traded it in for a C7 auto. Mine is a 6spd. He has thrown money at this car and it looks great. It has a Donaldson Blackwing, carbon fiber intake tunnel, larger throttle body, Corsa cat back system. 18" front 19" rear, slotted and drilled rotors. Any way you get the picture.
My question is, could this car have a dual mode exhaust? I think the system is the Pace Car, but I am not sure. I ask this because its sound is good at idle and great after 3500 rpm. This is the way my 12 Camaro ZL1 was until I pulled the fuse and let all 4 pipes stay open. Also when drive it hard the 2 inside pipes are sooty, like they are rich, but the outside pipes look normal. The car runs strong, but the previous owner says he doesn't remember if he had tune installed or not, (I talked with him after an illness).
So is there fuse to pull, or is this the way it is supposed to sound and run? My experience with Corvettes is with a 63 327, 69 427 and a 92 LT1. So I have not kept up with the tech data like I should have.
Don't forget with nearly all aftermarket systems, there's a single pipe out of the muffler which leads to a splitter. The main exhaust flow will go to the two inside pipes - smoothest run. Probably not much flow through the two outer pipes. The OEM exhaust has two pipes coming out of the muffler and both get used.
As to a bypass, that would have been an add on and there would be a non standard switch somewhere - plus if you look under the back of the car you would see the two valves - one for each pipe somewhere ahead of the muffler.
There isn't a dual mode on the C5. I know the C6Z does something to that extent. Maybe look under the car and see if there are any extra mods to the system. Like a bypass pipe welded from the muffler inlet and outlet.
Sounds to me like you want the car loud all the time? You may be interested in a dump pipe setup before the mufflers. I did, and the car sounds great. You can go electric to open or close at the push of a button. Or just manually cap it on and off like me. Cheaper and less possible parts to fail. But this way you have a quiet car when you want, and Vis-versa
The Corsa systems don't have a dual mode feature. The C5 did not have that as stock.
I have the Indy Pace Car system on my supercharged C5 and it is LOUD at WOT, but that's the way the mufflers are designed. They are quiet at cruise speeds (60-70MPH) in 5th or 6th gear and they are really quiet in city traffic as long as I don't go heavy on the gas or above 3000-3500 in 1st or 2nd.

What type of bi-mode corsa system is this in the video below? Maybe homemade?

Corsa does not make a dual mode exhaust for the C5 to my knowledge. I have the Indy Pace Car system on my car and it is definitely not a dual mode setup. At idle or low throttle, the Corsa does have a different tone than when you go wide open throttle. Just the way the system is designed.
And my two inside exhaust tips always get dirtier on the inside portion than the outside ones do.
Thanks to everyone for the replies. My question is answered. My 63 and 69 had Hooker Headers and the big side pipes and my 92 has headers and muffler eliminators, so yeah I like a Vette to sound like it means business. So I will go away happy.
