Default Puddle on floor behind driver's side front tire??

Car has been in storage in my garage and not driven for over three weeks. I always check the mouse traps when I get home at night from work (I'm on second shift).

Tonight I found a good size puddle directly behind the driver's side front wheel. By "behind" I mean towards the rear of the wheel well towards the dogleg of the fender...not under the engine. No smell or color at all...seems to be water.

I'll look at it more in the morning but I'm kinda stumped. What could it be? I reset the traps this morning and put some fresh Irish Spring in plastic cups under the hood earlier today...but that's it.

Any ideas? It's been cold here in Michigan but today was not too terrible...so I doubt anything froze or cracked...

Go to the hardware store or home improvement store and buy some" Contrac " blocks. This is the brand name for what pest control guys use for rats and mice. If you can't find it locally, go on the internet and look for Contrac by Bell Laboratories. Set the blocks ( you only need one or two) where ever you suspect rodents. Keep it away from your pets. Good luck.

Best guess is you have/had a plugged cowl drain udder...

So nothing major then? They drain on the floor like the A/C does?

Kind of curious why it would "unplug" on its' own...

Should I check them all out now or would it be OK to wait until before I put the battery back in the spring?

Yes, the udders drain on the floor just like the a/c and, assuming this is the issue, is no big deal. Just be sure to clean them out in the Spring and you'll be fine.

Not sure why it would suddenly drain like that, but two guesses are 1) it froze then thawed and this caused enough movement of the debris in the udder to allow water to drain, or 2) a varmint was crawling around underhood and moved it.

Good Lord I hope not. Four mouse traps (one by each tire), D-Con, mothballs, Irish Spring, and dryer sheets under the hood...

Short of paying $$$$ for one of those car bags/bubbles I don't know what else to do!

You can run your hand under the cowl and remove them and clean them in just a few minutes. There are 3 under the drivers side and one on passenger side that U can't get to easily. Don't pull the cowl, just reach under and pull them off, if that was the water issue u should see debree if not I would look else where for the problem. I cleaned mine and saw nothing in them, unless you park under a tree those things shouldn't get clogged. Good luck

I think that the udder explanation is probably right.

Now that it is daylight the water has a very faint bluish tint. Has to be washer fluid.

Also, the puddle has not gotten any bigger.

Thanks for your replies. I'll make sure to clean them out good in the spring...

Actually, I would probably come to a different conclusion if the fluid on the garage floor appears to be windshield washer fluid.

Unless you have used a ton of windshield washer fluid recently to clean your windshield (which could result in a some fluid in the cowl udders if they are clogged), I would consider a windshield washer fluid leak from the reservoir or lines to be the more likely cause...

It's not pure washer fluid. It's definitely water with a very faint bluish tint to it. I'm inclined to think that the clogged udder is more likely.

Regardless I'll inspect it fully when I wake her up in April.

Kind of what I was thinking too, but check the udders and see if they are clogged.

The washer tank is above and it is bluish, seems like a leak.

Mystery solved...self-inflicted...

This morning I went to clean the udders out. I had placed a cup with Irish Spring the other day in the space where you have to put your hand in to access them.

Found that the cup had lodged against the connector for what I am assuming is the "low washer fluid" sensor. It moved enough to leak...

Took the cup out and put it somewhere else. Removed the udders and there was a lot of leaves (acorns?!?) in them. God knows how that crap could get up in there.

It DOES seem like that sensor doesn't snap in very tight to the washer fluid reservoir. It didn't leak anymore when I pushed it back in but it seems weird that it would be that "loose"...you would think that it would have to twist-lock or something.

Oh well. Lesson learned! Also gave me an excuse to take the cover off and stare for a while!

Love those self-inflicted wounds...got plenty of them to my name too!

Glad it was an easy fix.
