Other drivers are jackwagons...
seriously, being a parking spot hog will only get you into trouble... when I park, I park smart.. I want to blend into the crowd not be an eye catcher.. no one likes someone who takes up two spots/... " NO ONE "... sooner or later someone will show you how much they don't like it..
I park as close to the place IM going into so my car is in view of a lot of eyes.. not out somewhere , where a cowards can vent his anger.
But hey I never worked for gm engineering, maybe I can't see what you see and I am the incorrect one. Doubt it though.

And although I agree with most of the statement ET, IF you followed through with that thought, you'd proably wind up toting an *** wooping (or worse)

I park out away from other people to preserve my pristine paint job, and although I may comment to my wife when I see it, I really couldn't care less if someone takes up and extra park as long as I can still find one.

In regards to tailgating, it normally happens to me, but from jacked up trucks, mustangs, Camaros and ricers. I just ignore them or hit the brakes a couple of times.
Here is a shot from work on Black Friday. I was in the office, as were about four other people. For grins, I took two spaces, just to see if anyone would give me a hard time about it. I came out in the afternoon, and this car was next to me.

As you can see, there's tons of open spaces. The car belongs to an intern in my department. I asked him the following Monday, why he parked next to me. He's a young nerd, socially awkward, and all that sort of stuff. He had no recollection of parking next to me, and didn't even recall that I owned the Vette, even though I had driven up to him in the parking lot a couple months earlier, as his car was being towed (he ran it out of oil), and I offered him a ride.
So he just parked where the other car in the lot was parked.
BTW, this kid had been reminded by his dad to check the oil for two full weeks before it finally lost it all and the engine seized.

And just for kicks, here's another example.

As far as the OP's concern, I've had very little of that so far. It may be due to my living more or less on the Scottsdale border, so I see exotic cars every day. A Vette is very common in my area. People are not impressed.
One thing that surprised me is all the oncoming Vette drivers that wave at me. I get lots of that.

Several times in the last couple days, I've had people who apparently took offense to my corvette and were tailgating me for long stretches. This never happens in my '97 Tahoe.

I'd never do that under normal conditions. As I mentioned, it was Black Friday. You can see the parking lot is empty, and I did it, knowing I may catch some crap from one of the very few people who came in to work that day. I think the total was four of us, and there's about 2,000 spaces on the campus.

how very true !
It also seems that a lot of them don't want to be behind a Vette (or some other nice sports type car) and will drive as fast as necessary to get around them and cut over in front then slow down !!

My point being when Corvette owners like this act like Jackwagons.. its easy fro some people toi get the idea that corvette oners are jack wagons.
" Shows my true Character" ( Black 02 ) ? You make the jack wagon poster of the day... I suggest a remedial reading course at a local community college
as far as me reading the Op's just for grins.. I was pointing out that it is a bad idea. and why.
Ive been on this forum for 13 + years, I have at least 50 post on this subject of making your car look special and how parking in the boon docks could be very costly.. And why do some people say, that anyone touching their car is in for an *** whipping.. as if they are the toughest guy on the planet.. it would be nice if this jack wagon confronted the Jeep owner and caught him pointing out that his Corvette is not so special and when the owner put up a fuss, The jeep owner also kicked his *** for being an ***.
Its stupid to take up two parking spots, its stupid to park out in the boonies where some less fortunate jack wagon could vent his frustrations on your car... why put you car in harms way??? I don't have one ding or dent in my car.. it has 100,000 miles and I take it everywhere, but I park smart.. I park close, and I park where the eyes of passing shoppers can prevent any coward from disresep0cting my car...
Always between the lines and always on an end and never next to a two door car.

Also had a fullsize van riding my tail down a winding mountain road. 45mph speed limit. in that case I had room to pull over and let him by, then he slows down.

He doesn't know that because he is a jack wagon.
