Default New Wheels

Hi Folks, I'm looking for opinions. I have an '04 coupe, Spiral Gray w/mag wheels (real mag). I'm wanting to upgrade the wheels and I'm looking at the C5 Z06 17/18 combo or the C7 Z51 style wheel in an 18/19 combo. I will not autoX or race the car. These wheels are for looks only... I'm unsure about the change to the larger wheels. My questions are 1,will the Z06 wheels fit a base coupe and 2,will the ride deteriorate with the 18/19 combo? Opinions on the looks will also be appreciated. Any wheels will be painted silver, not chrome nor black. Thanks in advance!:

I went to 19 x 20 inch wheels over a couple years ago. No regrets at all. I get many compliments on my wheels, and how they look on C5.

To those who say larger wheels ride rougher, I say, it's just not true! I've had both. Corvette rides like a Sports Car, either way.

I think 18 x 19, or all 19's, or 19 x 20 all offer some good looks, and tire combinations for you to consider.

Mine are the 'machined silver' with clear coat; and I love the look.

Those are absolutely HOT ! Great choice. What widths are you running and what tire sizes ? The setup looks fantastic !

The stock Z06 wheels will work just fine but if it were me I'd go with the stock Z06 size tires also. As for the 18/19 size wheels, it should not deteriorate the ride - you'll just need to ensure you get a set of tires that will keep the stagger front to rear between 1/2" and 1 1/2".

I run 18/18 and I think that's the right size for the car. You could argue 19s perhaps but I prefer the look of the 18s and the added benefit of them being lighter weight.

When you go up in size, ( wheel size diameter ) the aspect ratio has to change to allow for the correct diameter. the problem with going larger wheel is the side wall of the tire gets smaller. This causes less impact absorption. ( A harsher ride..) its not a guess or an opinion, its a fact. ( Its Physics ). the upside of a smaller aspect ratio, is lateral stability. one of the big problem with a short sidewall is, with less impact absorption there are higher chances of bending a wheel, or breaking a tire belt, in the event you hit a pot hole or a road hazard. Low profile tire are effective on a track, where pot holes and road hazards are non existent.. I would never use too low a profile on a city street or unfamiliar roads. Tires and wheel are too expensive to destroy hitting a pot hole.

AMEN BROTHER

I put Z06 size wheels and tires on my 04 but i went with aftermarket wheels so I can have the 05 thru 07 C6 5 spokes.

17 x 9.5 up front and 18 x 10.5 in the rear...................No Spacers required !

C5 Z06 wheels look great. Their problem is that there's no tire selection in the stock 17 and 18 inch wheel sizes.

They come stock with 265/40-17 and 295/35-18 tires. Only Bridgestone makes tires in these sizes anymore.

I bought C6 2005-2007 5-spoke reproduction wheels in 18x9.5x58mm offset and 18x10.5x58mm offset.

They look good on C5s.

265/35-18 and 265/40-17 tires are almost exactly the same height.

The C6 Z06 reproductions in 18x9.5 and 19x11 with C5 offsets of 57mm and 65mm are a good choice, too. 275/35-18 and 305/30-19 tires sizes fit in the wheel wells and keep wheel heights that are close to stock.
