IMO,, If you need something to tell you when to shift then you must be a novice when it comes to shifting a sportscar. Excpecialy when it comes to a corvette. Its something you just know when to do for maximum power to the rear wheels.Thas my valued opion!
I can see your point. I haven't find a need for a shift light yet, but it would be nice to have one. If you own the road all to yourself, then there is not a need for a shift light. I think it's a lot safer to have a shift light when you are racing, that way you don't have to keep looking at the tach for when to shift. You can focus more on the road. Not that I don't need a shift light, I haven't found one for the right price yet.
A friend of mine had an 02 Z06, and had a shift light installed. It worked out very nice for him. The shift light on the HUD is not adjustable and wasn't intended as a shift point for max power. It's just a reminder by GM to tell you to shift because they don't want you to get up in that range or stay in that range too long.
I got to see how nice this shift light is for the $130 price.

I hope you are joking..if you are not..you should go get in a dragster or at least in a car that will run 8 secs or better. Shift lights are generally put on the dash as close to eye level..it is a peripheral thing when speed shifting in the 1/4..
The new g tech competition model has a programmable shift light. For about double the price of 130 dollars you get the shift light placed where you want it on your windshield plus many more features than the original g tech had.

I can tell you thats certainly not true on my '99 C5 with HUD. The hud shift indicator came on at 6000 with the stock rev limiter at 6200. If you saw the words and didnt shift you'd hit the rev limiter.
Who knows, maybe they just left it at 6000 on the Z06 also.
I added the shift light because I think 6500 is the optimal rpm to shift with my camshaft.

50thZ06...have you ever raced??? I'm sure that you're very skilled at driving on the road, but sounds like you know nothing about racing on the strip...IMHO.

Eric,
You are right about your 99 C5, but this is a Z06 we're talking about. The Shift light on the HUD of a Z06 comes on at around 6,200 RPM (concluded from a long lengthy discussion about 8 months ago). The optimum shift point is around 6400-6500 RPM (6,600 is the redline on the Z06). Unless you powershift all the time, then you may want to shift a little earlier. Plus, he wanted something that is a lot brighter than the little dot on the HUD.... Hey, that's him.....

Re: Z06's suck! (MrViperGTS)
I need someone to help me out. I make electronics components for cars and what not... I need someone who owns a Z06 (doesn't matter if it's 01 or 02) to install a shift light for me. I will give you the shift light FREE in your choice of color.
No way I am going to run a vendor's experiments in my car. Why not try it in one of your cars?
