I have never liked how the air filter doesn't get much use on the underside.
This has been done by others and I had a bit of free time today.
About a $20 total investment and 60 minutes of my time.
I used a plastic (indestructible) wall organizer.
Window screen to keep debris out.
Machine screws and washers to keep the organizer in place.
Black duct tape to keep the screen in place.
The tape is not the most professional looking but my thought behind it is that I'm not yet sure how dirty the screen will get and how often I'll need to clean/change it out. So for now its easiest to pull off the filter and peel off the tape. The flash makes the tape really stand out but its really totally unnoticeable.
Hoping the fresh air will be good for a few ponies up on top.

you might give that one a shot if it will work with your setup... basically the inlets go behind the front screens and pull air from there... I used to have one and they don't have the best build quality but they do work

Yeah thanks.. I know how they work
My reason for doing this is to introduce MORE air, not just air from outside the engine compartment.
I appreciate your creativity but there is more than sufficient flow of air coming from the front bumper openings which feed to where the air filter is. And as for the Vararam CAI, I have read a test somewhere a couple years ago that you have to be doing somewhere over 100mph in order to get the real benefits. At idle or lower mph there is no forcing of air occuring and the Vararm actually restricts airflow verses other CAI brands.

Just doing everything possible to break that 600rwhp mark the next time I have it retuned.
Most of my highway roll races are 70-150.. So that ram air benefit might actually come into play

Man no sarcasm intended here at all but PLEASE do your racing at the drag strip or on a road course, NOT on a highway or street. Those are dangerous speeds on public roads and there are others at risk of a wreck at your hands. I have a 16 year old daughter who just got her license three weeks ago and she doesn't need risks like this. If you are a dad you will understand...

I practice lots of safety precautions when occurrences like this happen. The main one, I don't do it when other cars are around.
Trust me, your daughter is much safer driving next to me than a distracted mom in a minivan full of kids while texting. At the same time, a new driver is the riskiest driver on the road statistically, and that's even when they're not texting. I have been cut off by a fair share when I'm motorcycling.
We all need to respect each other when sharing the road.

Is your daughter out at 3:30am on a weeknight on Houston's tollways without a car a mile in front or behind me? To each, their own.
I did the flip tie mod a few times. Then added a vararam. Same timing, AFR tune the same. I gained .05 with the vararam with a 1.72-1.75 60ft similar to the flip tie, but actually MPH'd .5 faster with the flip tie. I don't think there's a lot to gain over your setup, but that's my actual track experience, not regurgitated talking points.
VRB2 is garbage... YES, I have used it.. I see exactly what Pete is trying to accomplish. Channel/Funnel true cool air from the bottom of the car. A wall organizer...? Crazy... but it may just work. I also ran the Calloway Honker set up, which I loved... They use the same theory by cutting out the same area and actually mounting the lid to it. (sealed).
Let us know if you reach those numbers. I too am chasing the 600rwhp N/A... Waiting for the MSD and the VR intakes to hit the market and get some real world numbers. Not holding my breath though... My ported FAST 102 gets the job done.

Exactly!
More air and hopefully cooler air to keep IAT sensor numbers down.
I would be interesting to see what the baseline was before that mod and then get a tune a redyno to see how many ponies were added. I'll say 10-12...just a random guess.
