Default repaint question???

2000 navy blue metallic. What would you guys think the costs would be to have the front nose, headlight covers, hood and then blend would cost to repaint. My clear coat is pealing in these areas and it will have to be stripped and then repainted. Any guesstimates??? Just trying to get an idea...

many thanks in advance

Maybe you should ask some local bodyshops? Panels will most likely have to be stripped. I have my stock Navy Blue hood in the basement when I took it off for my MCM hood. Have a spare Front Fascia in the same color. Too bad your so far away.

I'm not 100% sure what you should expect. But with paint and/or bodywork, don't go cheap. It's well worth the money to pay for quality work. To have it really done right I would tell you to expect it in the $1,500 ish range, maybe even a little higher. There's a lot of labor that goes into doing it right.

$1500 is what I was kinda thinking too, give or take a few hundred. I figured 6-700 in supplies alone. This whole thing started out when I installed one of those 3M clear bras. It was advertised as easy on, easy off. Will never discolor nor crack. HA ha, all of those are lies. Please do not EVER put one of those clear bras on your car. 1.5-2 years and it was cracked and yellow and nothing will take it off, plus it has fused into the clear coat. SO yes, strip and repaint and try to blend.

Sounds like you need to repaint the entire car as the rest of the "good" areas probably aren't too far behind the failing areas.

I'd say in the $1500-$2000 range. Funny, the cost of painting cars seems to vary considerably in different parts of the country. I've had the front, rear, and rocker panels repainted on my car over the years. I take my car to a paint shop that does a lot of custom work and I've always been very satisfied. I probably pay a little more for that reason, but my car is my passion and I don't cut corners when I'm having work done on it.

I only posted the title as a semi joke. In reality, if you watch any of the TV car shows, no matter how much work is done, repaint work is the most expensive. It just is. There is a ton of pre-paint work, can go from 20 to 60 hours. But the reality is you want a high quality finish. Nothing looks worse than a cheap paint job, that's because it's the first thing someone sees and the last thing someone remembers about your Corvette.

There's no margin for a bad paint job. To repaint what you propose, and all the pre-paint and the paint work and the wet block sanding just suck up the hours, and then it will need to be polished by a real expert polisher. Total cost, at least $6000.00. That's just the way it's done. you can shop around, check each body shop for references and see what quality of work they produce. When your paying for top quality, expect to pay for top quality. Good Luck !

Corvette specialist shop here in Indy just quoted me $600 to paint just my hood and one headlight cover. Mine is black, so maybe that is less work than the metallics. He did say both pieces would be removed for painting

Not blending makes the job a lot easier, like just the hood and headlight with no blending.

I had my whole car done with a complete color change last summer for $4700 in So. Calif. and that included some of the interior too, That was a great price for what they did compared to some other quotes I had around the same area ranging from 5 to 10 grand for the same work. here is a before and after pic, Enjoy

As a former bodyman and painter who does this just for fun because I can, bodywork and paint is expensive

I just painted my car Nassau Blue from Silver Metallic and the 5 qts of paint was 650.00 5 qts clear was 200.00, another 150.00 for tape, thinners and sandpaper etc.

1000.00 just for the materials.

I have a lift which helps alot since the car is so low, and took the hood, fenders and spoilers off the car then put it all back together.

You are not going that far but perhaps you could do all the sanding and most of the preparation work, as well as the after paint watersanding and polishing.

This is not hard to do stuff.

If money is an issue get just the painting part done professionally.
That would save a bundle.
Do a search on Craigslist for autobody and paint under services and for sale and see what comes up.
Buyer beware but you may find a good deal there.
