I'm not from cali, but based on everything I have read, that seems hard to believe.
So, you have a kit I assume, with a carb cert sticker. With forged internals and the cam though, I can't imagine how your hc and nox levels aren't high. You run cats and full system at that whp level?
That doesn't answer the question. How and what setup?
It's a lot easier to do a supercharged setup and pass than N/A... there are CARB legal kits and it's easy to turn up boost
You can get away with a mild cam and milled/ported heads (probably aftermarket, too, since they all look about the same), but headers are out; the only way you're getting away with 500+rwhp out of an N/A build in Cali is with an LS7 swap (and some mods, obviously) or a paid-off smog shop (not as easy as it once was, from what I've heard)
I suppose that may be true if a peak hp number defines a car, in your opinion. I'm a bit more intrigued by the handling and braking ability of the C7. 650 is nice, but 460 is also pretty damn nice considering it becomes more of a point and shoot versus a throttle management dance on a road course. Plenty of people can handle 500whp car going straight, few can truly handle it turning and braking.
Perfect C7 to me would be Z07 body/aero/brakes with no infotainment/removable roof, some weight reduction and a 505hp n/a 6.2 liter. Then again, as a mid 30's car enthusiast/builder I'm not the buyer GM targeted with the C7Z, so makes sense it misses the mark.
I wish they had made a "Z/28 version" of the C7, regardless of what badge they slapped on it. Grand Sport would be a little odd after the last one, as it would go from the soft-core alternative to the Z06 to being the more focused track car, but that name seems like it would fit the part after the first two cars to wear it.
My wife wants me to sell all the toys and get a C7 Z51... I've considered it, but I'm not sure about losing 30hp and gaining 300 pounds. The torque would be nice, though, and it wouldn't take much to get right back where I am on horsepower (weight, not so much). I really need to find one I can take for a drive, with the manual. There are none here.
I'd like to get some honest feedback from somebody who made that jump

What's hard to believe? A stock C5-Z06 with an A&A kit (carb legal) makes around 520rwhp. Add meth, ported heads, and cam and you have way over 600rwhp. Add a forged LS2 and a smaller pulley and you have a stout, smog legal legal combination.
Personally, when I sat in the C7 it did not feel as comfortable as my C5 Z06. The seat was narrower, and the interior felt cramped. I'll stick with the C5 thank you very much.
Were the AA kits that were carb legal more money? I received no carb sticker with mine. I have AA long tubes unfortunately. So, for the Cali folks, is there a way to own a supercharged, longtube, no cat Z06 in the state? I have an employment opportunity there...two actually, but I honestly have put it aside because my car becomes a big problem. I'd been tempted to have it registered in AZ, but apparently CHP doesn't worry about pesky things like probable cause to stop you. Even on cali gov websites it says that out of state plates are "supsicious" in that, they indicate people who are potentially avoiding registering their car in california. What an absurd bunch of laws that state has. How the hell is the citizens let the politics get so out of control there?

I don't know, but it's insane... they even have a program in place to report your neighbor for out-of-state plates, and residents willingly do it: http://www.chp.ca.gov/prog/cheaters_2013.cgi
Crooks
The presumption is that you're registering out of state to avoid paying their taxes and fees... unfortunately, that's often what it takes to bring in a modified car. If I get my transfer, my car will stay AZ plated until I sell it. I don't have a chance in hell of passing. I will have it garaged at ALL times.
The state is beautiful, it's just run by all the liberals

Yeah...the program to "report your neighbor" is laughable and unreal. Even if I'm in the state legitimately, you can guarantee that if a neighbor decides to report you, you'll have to prove your innocence versus having them prove your guilt...I guarantee that.
I've almost moved to California multiple times...I would likely do much better there than anywhere else with the contacts I have...but everything I enjoy...my cars, my guns, my rights...don't seem to exist there and many of the people there insist you don't need those things.

Exactly
Progressives (statists) **** me off
If I do manage to get a transfer to California, I don't intend to stay forever, that's for sure
This might be worthy of another thread but I am intrigued by these different California county laws. The best I could find (and have friends that live in certain areas) is Lompoc (near Santa Barabra) which is the "Basic" smog check every two years.
Still trying to find zips with the least oversight and see if I know anyone there.
I rented a 2015 a8 stingray and it wasn't a z51, I'm putting for sale up my 615 rwhp c5z with suspension goodies and a 5k sound system after driving a c7, not as fast but where do I start. In fact every single way it possibly could be better it was. I was so blown away by how nice it was and pleasurable and iv had my c5z for 7 years. I always told myself the only way I'd sell it is if I was climbing in another corvette.
It kills me to sell my z but why have 2 corvettes when's all I'd do is drive the c7 and then end up selling my c5z as time goes on because I don't drive it...

Thank you for your insight. What type of driving have you done in your Z? Do you feel that the base C7 will do everything you want it to, or do you think you will be modifying it to your standards as you did the C5Z?

that is like the programs in former Soviet Union to report neighbors and family members that were not loyal to communist party and government.... WOW!!!
