Default slick paint?!

Tried putting a small 1/8" pin stripe on the front fender side moulding of my 3-week-old Z06 just to see how it might look. Came back for a second look about ten minutes later - and it had fallen off!! Is there something special about Corvette paint? I've pin-striped lots of new cars for myself and friends but never run into this problem. What makes Vette paint feel so slippery? I haven't waxed it yet, and I can't imagine the dealer going to that expense before delivery.

Could it be the clear-coat?

Haven't got a clue. My '98 5.9 Grand Cherokee has clear coat and I pin-striped it. Doesn't feel nearly as slippery as the Z06.

I'm curious too. I just bought a 2002 Z06 a month ago, and the clear coat seemed awful slippery, too. Did you try a cleaner polish/wax prior to application?

I tried a mild detergent just on that piece of moulding (same detergent I've used before pin-striping other cars). Didn't seem to faze it. I'd still like to put a 1/8" pin strip down the lengths of those side mouldings.

You will want to clean the surface with Isopropyl alcohol before trying to attach anything to it. :)

Most dealers put a coat of wax on them. They want the car to look as good as possible when you pick it up.

Seems like the dishwashing detergent would have removed any wax that was on it. (Haven't tried the alcohol approach.)

That applies everywhere but ca, because these dealers only care that you pick it up and drive it away. They don't seem to be too worried about customer satisfaction and the like. They do wash them, though. Waxing, come on, now.

Oh, the smell of Zaino must be going to me head. My dealer did wax mine before delivery. I used Dawn to get it off so I could Zaino it...
