Default TPMS Test/Program Before Installing?

I'm a bit paranoid about the two generations of TPMS on our C5's, and this eBay claims to be the right one for my 2003:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/131443678234?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Before I go though the install expense, I wanted to test that they really are the correct ones, so just holding one in my hand I tried programming with the magnet, and cannot get a beep. Tried again with a second one, nada.

SO - should this work? should you be able to program an uninstalled TPMS? Or are these people (and their sensor) wrong?

Yes you should be able to program them in your hands. I'd mark them in order lf, rf, rr, and lr if you get them to work and then install them in the correct position when you install them and they will already be programmed. Try a stronger magnet. In the meantime, I'll check the part number for your car.

Sorry, I can't tell you if those are correct. The GM number is 25773946. You can buy from Gene Culley at Cultrag and get the correct sensors cheaper than from a dealer.

The end of their ad says "these sensors require programming by a dealer or tire shop", so who knows?

That's what I would do. I bought the Schraders, had tire shop install them when I bought new tires and trained them myself with a magnet in about 2 minutes.

Thanks guys!

I have determined they are the wrong sensors, and that the vendor's eBay fitment info is wrong. These are their SC2575 (Schrader 20115 equivalent), the correct Orange sensor is their SC3946 which they say is GM P/N 25773946 equivalent.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Set-of-4...6870dc&vxp=mtr

It sure would be nice to only spend $79.95 for a set of four; I'll let you know how good they are with handling the exchange and if these correct ones do, in fact, work.

BTW, not made in China, these are marked Taiwan if you consider that a small step closer

I replaced 3 of the TPMS on my 2002 coupe (one was replaced by previous owner) with Orange part number SC 3946 purchased on Ebay. I did not have any problem programing the sensors. Orange Electronics makes OEM sensors for Mercedes and several others others. To the naked eye the quality looks good and they come with nut, gasket and valve cap. If I read the date codes correctly the sensors I bought were made in June 2008. This may explain the low Ebay price. The batteries used have a long shelf life so I am not worried about the build date. Only had them on since September 2014 so time will tell.

I got the dorman brand from rockauto, lifetime warranty. I trained them before installation, one wouldn't train and had to send back. All good after 6 months.
