I've had a vert for about a year now, and it isn't what I was hoping it would be.
Essentially, I can't use it. Due to family/personal circumstances, I am almost perpetually out of town visiting family in Wisconsin. Last year I used it for a grand total of 3 weeks.
Family is pressuring me to move to Wisconsin, but I dont want to live there. As I'm sure other WI residents can attest, the weather there sucks. There is only about a 4 month window where it is nice enough to be outside, either for riding my bicycle or driving with the top down.
Insurance and tag renewal will be due soon. I was planning to get new tires, it is still on its original 98 OEM tires. But I have realized why? New tires that will just flat spot again as it spends all summer in the garage on a battery tender? Insurance and tags for a car that won't be driven?
It was Dad's car, so it was taken care of, but he never drove it either.
Do I want to own my stuff, or my stuff to own me? Right now it is just a big tease, just sitting there but can't be used.
Giving up the Vette would be difficult, but giving up cycling? Seriously? That's just plain crazy as that's part of your fitness program.
I really like my Vette, but I bought a coupe because you can haul a 56cm roadbike in it. Now you know what my handle means.
Ya gotta keep things in perspective. I'd stay in an area where my lifestyle suits me. That's why I'm in NC and my and my wifes' families are in NJ.
Lazarus Long, as a WI resident you may be a bit off on the 4 month window for biking!! Yes, it gets cold here, but, the weather during the first week of March was in the 60s. Last week in the 50s and this week it looks like the 40s and 50s. If you ask me, excellent biking weather! Also, the local micro brewery serves free pints to those that bike in on Wednesdays! In reality, you can probably ride your bike into late October or early November (still in 50s and 60s at times). So, if my math is correct, you can ride your bike comfortably for about 8 months. And, if you are a bit crazy, all year long. People do it. This year was light on snow so it would have been possible! I work for a volunteer fire department and I have fought fires in -10 degree weather while flowing a lot of water. I'm old, if I can do it you can to! So, man up, and move back to WI I'm really just yanking your chain a bit. As someone who has been around the block a few times there really isn't anything more important than family. Don't let geographic location keep you from them. And, should you move back, you can share your dad's vette with family members. Sounds pretty cool to me! There is one caveat to my note! If you are a young person trying to establish your independence (cut the umbilical cord) then a little distance early on may not be a bad thing! Best of luck!

pretty sound advice... only thing I would add is that "family" doesn't have to be blood... I am closer to a couple of the most awesome human beings on the planet and we don't share a single strand of DNA...
but, I treat relationships like money. If I keep investing in something and never get anything in return, I will invest in something else.
I live in a real crappy climate with only 3 months summer. Dream everyday of moving and eventually will but still have my Corvette. It is more of a beautiful work of art hanging on the wall, a trophy that I enjoy for a couple of months a year (when not in Europe, my passion) it gives me happiness just looking at it. So you see there are other people out there in the same situation. The Corvette is a car for Southern climes with good roads and long summer evenings to enjoy not places that winter rules!!! Put up or move. Rob

The largest bicycle brand in America is based out of Wisconsin, and I assure you they ride year round!
If you commit to riding, and commit to driving the vette you won't have issues. It's a chevy, it can be driven in cold weather.

I have to agree with my good neighbor to the East. MN and Wisconsin have much the same weather. The vette driving season is easily 8 months. I have driven into December several times. A gentleman in my city drives his C5 year round. Good luck with your decision.

You can't drive with the top down that long. I've tried biking in the cold, I can't do lower than mid 30s. This winter there was snow/ice on the road from December well into March. Yes, some hard core people do try to bike on that. Not me.
How much snow and ice can the top take before it is damaged? I don't want to find out the hard way.
I know what I'd choose if it came to giving up one or the other. You said something that would make the decision very easy if it were me. It was your dad's car. Even though he didn't drive it much, it sounds like he loved it. My dad passed away over 4 years ago and I have a bunch of his personal things from WW II. I know they're not the same as a car, but every time I look at something of his they bring back a flood of wonderful memories and it puts a huge smile on my face. It would be very difficult for me to get rid of something that was a "part" of him.
I've been around the block a few times and have come to the realization that sometimes you have to live your life for you and not others. Family is very important, but you have to be happy as well. Sounds to me you're trying to make a decision based on being "pressured" into something rather than following your heart. It's not an easy decision and I wish you the best of luck.
[QUOTE=DevilDog II;1589246356] I live in Northern Illinois and my bicycle, much like my car, only comes out on sunny summer days. This little beauty rides like a Cadillac.

Dude,,, your bike is sick!
Unfortunately, I look like Pee Wee Herman when I ride it. It is a chick magnet and I have to beat women in their 70's and 80's away with a stick. One of my Harley buddies bought the bell for me as a joke.

It would be nice to hang on to it since it was dad's. Fortunately he hasn't passed away, he got a new car and transferred it to me. I don't think it was cherished much, it was a bit of a burden. It was a 3rd car with only a 2 car garage. It was always a hassle for him to store it in the winter. In the summer it wasn't driven much because getting it out meant moving another that was always in the way. The owning your stuff vs your stuff owning you thing.
I like the car and want to keep it, but I visit so often I never get to use it. Im hesitant to drive it there because it will have to stay outside where birds and tree sap will drip all over the cloth top. i cant bring my bike, hence my previous thread looking for a trailer hitch. But it is stupid to let a thing to cause me to resent visiting them.
