Default A fake z06

So this guy I met told me he had an o1 z, and I said cool, me too. So I went to his shop and saw his fastback 01' with fender badges. Then I looked at his rear brake vents, and saw they were stick on!

He was so proud that he "stole" the car for $13k, and expressed sorrow when I told him I paid 17 for mine.

Would you tell him or not? I didn't, but still have a little business with him, so I'll see him one more time. Part of me want to tell him just so he knows, and the other half of me says let it be.

You don't think he's aware that it's a badly-attempted clone?

I actually think he doesn't know... Almost a little arrogant about it.
Oh, it's an auto as well...

what was done to him may be legal misrepresenting the Corvette saying it's something and being something else if willingly knowing this is well ,I would get a lawyer ..so tell him not knowing stuff is not a crime but being ripped off might be...

I'd tell him, even if he is arrogant (well, unless he's really arrogant to the point of being an ***... and maybe I would still).

I would say ask him questions like "cool, I didn't know they made 01 z06's with removable roof/auto/hatch/HUD etc" until he begins to question it, goes home and figures it out himself.
He might know it isn't a z, but thinks he's fooling you.

Heck yeah, I'd tell him. LOL. Film the look on his face and his reply for the forum.

Funny how guys don't even research what they're buying or assume others won't know.

Tell him....it is like letting someone know their fly is open, they have a booger hanging, or there is white stuff around the corner of their mouth they need to take care of.

Doesnt matter if it hurts his feelings...you just got to do it.

This is not uncommon, unfortunately. Several C5 Coupe owners try and pass their cars off as Z06s. Of course they are free to do what they want with their cars, but they are only seen by true enthusiast as a tool.

I have seen several Z06 Coupes. Even saw one nice yellow 03 low mileage convertible "Z06" on a Corvette sales lot, where I often do business.

I commented to the salesman that is one rare bird, a Z06 convertible. He smiled and kind of rolled his eyes, as if to say, "You get all kinds". BTW, they told me that they would be taking the badges off.

Back to your acquaintance:

I think asking him questions, like wow, I was not aware they made Z 06 coupes. I was not aware that they made Z 06 automatics. etc. If he has any type of intelligence, he will research and find out he has either been taken for a fool or will know that his gig is up.

Of course the VIN suggestion is perhaps the best one. Tell him about this NEAT service offered this forum to check up on his new Z06,

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/vindecoder.php

If he enters his VIN, it will show a coupe with 350 HP.

Radar makes a valid point. If he was sold this car as a Z06, whoever sold it to him may be guilty of misrepresenting the car. On the other hand, since he paid 13K for it, not knowing what condition it is in, that sounds about right for a high mileage 01 Coupe in fair condition. Very low for a real Z06 in half a** shape. In my mind the fact that he paid 13K for it would tend me to believe he already knows what it really is.

Take the high road, give him the benefit of any doubt that he believes it's a Z and diplomatically inform him with facts. After all he's part of the corvette family. Wouldn't you want to know if the shoe was on the other foot.

Your right, but apparently missing the point about delivering the message.
Just how is the VIN number not being a Z going to be delivered?
And how will a guy like this, going to accept that message?

Remember the OP posted "So I went to his shop and saw his fastback 01' with fender badges."

I've been part of conversations like this before and it's not pretty.
Sometimes it's just better to let that "bugger hang there" and walk away.

pretty easily. rather than argue over details you hone in on one area. all z06s have an S in the vin while all ls1 cars used a G

if there is no S in the vin it's not a z06

do however agree that walking may be smarter. sometimes it's not worth arguing. glance at the vin, if it's a G, just stay quiet if you feel an argument coming

not worth it
