Sheesh just tell the guy straight up. If he is honestly mistaken he should have some integrity and be thankful for the information instead of getting butthurt. It's not like you're outing his car infront of onlookers at a show or something. In my short time I've seen quite a few of these fakes.. but this is California after all.
I didn't tell him. Another odd think was that his rear ducts were actually there. I looked!
But his dash gauges didn't say zo6' his seats didn't say zo6, but I didn't want to ruin his day. He was a really nice guy. He will figure it out soon enough. He's had the car for 5 months now.
It's got an after market hood, slotted rotors with zo6 brakes, vents, headlight kit, monza (or something) exhaust, led rear lights, HUD (in an 01?) 55k on the clock, custom dash to fit a double din kenwood, 5 spoke chromes, heavy tint, like every aftermarket thing ever made...
He claimed a cammed rebuilt engine too...
Fastback and auto.... Somebody went to a lot of effort to make the car cool as they thought possible. I didn't want to be the one to say, "oh, by the way".... Your car isn't a real blond.....

Oh, I thought you said they were the stick-on ones... you could easily do the same thing with the hatch, though.

Well, I know one particular forum member here who has an FRC and subsequently put the fake ducts on it and Z06 badges...can you say "poser?" Well, after catching a lot of crap from others he finally wised up and removed the badges...it is, what it is.
So this guy I met told me he had an o1 z, and I said cool, me too. So I went to his shop and saw his fastback 01' with fender badges. Then I looked at his rear brake vents, and saw they were stick on!
He was so proud that he "stole" the car for $13k, and expressed sorrow when I told him I paid 17 for mine.
Would you tell him or not? I didn't, but still have a little business with him, so I'll see him one more time. Part of me want to tell him just so he knows, and the other half of me says let it be.
I would tell him for sure, before he embarrass's himself even more in public/car shows etc

What's the point of raining on his parade? Whether he's arrogant or not, there isn't any good reason to pop his bubble. Let him think what he wants. If he's happy, fine. If he isn't, it isn't your problem. No matter what else, I'd leave it alone.
I would rather know the truth than be allowed to keep making an *** of myself by thinking otherwise...you would have done him a favor but tastefully checking VIN and showing him without making him feel like idiot. If he bought from dealer then he would have reason to get money back.....or anyone else if it was sold as Z and he still has bill of sale.
I would have told him right off the bat... no hard top, no z.
He's either oblivious and needs to know before making an *** of himself or he thinks he's clever and needed to be called out on it.
I recently meet a guy with a wide body c5 who told me he had a rare version with a 300mph speedometer... I just laughed and said, you mean a Canadian model? He knew what it was, he just thought he was getting over on people
If he doesn't really know, first time he meets up with other Corvette owners, he is going to wonder why they snicker at him and quickly move away when he tries to engage them.
Sounds like a really nice car with some nice upgrades.
